More evidences about Al Gore!

OK,

I'll bite:

Wikipedia is your friend

The average number of citations per article in the scientific press.

Time and newsweek are at best secondary sources for scientific information. They quote research (of various levels of quality)

Where are the studies that cite them?

As long as the subject has drifted away from the basic question of Al Gore being a jinx, I'll be a good sport and post something relevant to the new topic.

Climate Audit Proving to Be Inconvenient (Again)
National Review

Steve McIntyre is being denied access to temperature data from the UK's Met Office.

Anthony Watts has a nice write up (with video — heh):
For all of our UK readers, now is the time for all good citizens to come to the aid of their country (and science). The Met Office refuses to release data and methodology for their HadCRUT global temperature dataset after being asked repeatedly. Without the data and procedures there is no possibility of replication, and without replication the Hadley climate data is not scientifically valid. This isn’t just a skeptic issue, mind you, others have just a keen an interest in proving the data.

What is so bizarre is this. The FOI request by Steve McIntyre to the Met Office was for a copy of the data sent to Peter Webster. If the restrictions on the data hold for Steve McIntyre, why did they not prevent release of the data to Webster?

When asked by Warwick Hughes for this data, Dr. Jones famously replied:

Even if WMO agrees, I will still not pass on the data. We have 25 or so years invested in the work. Why should I make the data available to you, when your aim is to try and find something wrong with it.

...

Emphasis added. Yeah baby, that's science all right.

It used to be that we didn't expect anything to happen to the climate.

When was this?

The Ice Ages and the Little Ice Ages are hardly new theories.

Many conservatives are still hung up on the obsolete term "global warming", but that has been replaced with "climate change" because of the complexities involved, which can actually cause cooling in some areas of the world.

Or, apparently, all areas of the world as even mediamatters admits:

Annual global average temperatures have both risen and fallen over the past 11 years, and while there have been some relatively cooler years during that period -- including a decline in each of the past three relative to the year before

The wackos who persist in denying the phenomenon are either motivated by, or being deliberately manipulated by those who are motivated by, the mindless quest for profit. They aren't doing the human race any favors by spreading their misinformation.

And what are the AGW wackos motivated by? A mindless hatred of progress? A mindless hatred of profit? What motivates you?

By the way it is hilarious to see people being suckered in by graphs like these ones from the British Met Office.

They have chosen to start their time series from the bottom of the last mini ice age.

Of course temperatures have risen since then!

No, that's not science, that's the standard MO for deniers of making personal attacks on scientists. I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire myself. McIntyre's blog is one of relentless personal attacks and abuse. The hard-on he has for Hansen and Jones is bizarre. There are hundreds of authors of climate change papers out there, creating thousands of papers.

I hope Al has a wonderful summer spending less on air conditioning and reducing his carbon footprint. I am more concerned with global drying, and in particular, in the region of Texas south of the I-10. The El Niño/La Niña phenomenon has apparently been a factor in the summer flow from northwest to southeast getting cut off at the pass, and not dumping the usual amounts of rain into an agricultural and ranching region.

Warm is one thing, warm and dry is quite another: some people call it a desert.

Deserts do no have to be warm, see Antartica, the worlds largest desert.

So, again I ask you to chose A or B.
False dilemma.

Strawman.

Of course temperatures have risen since then!
Strawman. No one here accepts global warming due to the graph in question.

I'll hang back for a while and let others argue the fine points.

Meanwhile...

You can hardly be more guilty of sanctimonious self righteousness than when you throw out a blanket criticism of every other participant in the debate.

So AlGore's black and white characterization of those who agree with the projections of what MMGW will do to mankind and those who do not agree is not a false dilema?

AlGore's lifestyle as opposed to his MMGM prophecy is the paradigm of hypocrisy. There is no gray area about it. If you have some rational explanation for why AlGore doesn't fall into the A or B category, by all means, do share.

That may or may not be a legitimate criticism of Al Gore, but keep in mind that it says nothing about the reality of climate change. For further information, see this thread.

It does say that AlGore, the narrator of the sci-fi "An Inconvenient Truth," exhibits behavior that is an embarrassment to MMGWers.

You ought to listen to that guy back in post #19 who asked, "Who are these people truly obsessed with Al Gore?"

Oh, wait. That was you.

Four strawmen and a wedding. I'll give you #1 as it's your subjective personal impression, and I thus can't really argue against it, but I'm a bit confused as I don't find the posting style of people here that different from their style in other discussions. Perhaps you think we're self-righteous always. Maybe we are. Oh well, that's a topic for another thread. Moving on:

Please stop dodging.

You may want to start reading posts other than your own. A C and D have been presented, and I'm sure I could present an E if I wanted to. As a matter of fact, I do. I fear you're going to take this out of context (please prove me wrong), but here goes:

E. You're mistaken somehow and using a private jet isn't as wasteful as you thought.

I used to believe without question that buying locally grown produce was better for the environment because it meant produce didn't have to get shipped as far. Then Skeptoid's Brian Dunning pointed out to me in his latest podcast that this was incorrect, due to the mathematics involved in producing food in cold environments, the amount of carbon dioxide released by tankers and trucks, and other factors. I saw a subject that seemed obvious, and, when shown the shades of grey, realized I had been mistaken.

"Al Gore rides a private jet!" sounds like an easy sell, but if you "turn your skeptical eye" on the statement, I'm sure there is more to it.

Not that it matters. AGW doesn't stand or fall on Al Gore more than evolution stands or fall's on Darwin's {arbitrarily decided trait here}.

:dl:

AGW Denier: Al Gore is a hypocrite!
AGW "Believer: You have to realize that Al Gore--
AGW Denier 2 (to Believer): Al Gore again! Oh my god, why are we discussing Al Gore? You believers are obsessed with the guy!

The pith writes itself, doesn't it:D?

I gave you grey - you ignored it. It was to you, apparently, An Inconvenient Truth.

Not every other participant. The ones that agree with him are exempt.
