That one is all rotted out. Our nets would catch live ones.

Do you even realize how big our ocean is? Of course, a species like that could easily hide and not be found

I sure do. But that hasn't stopped humans from putting the big predatory fish in serious decline. What happened to all the big tuna, swordfish, marlin, etc? You need to educate yourself before posting on JREF. You might get owned. :D

They stand no chance against a purse seine net. These things can be 600-800' wide and 1 mile long. Boats will drag them for 100 miles per day. We've been doing this for hundreds of years and very intensely in recent decades. We go virtually everywhere to find fish to eat. No place to hide. We gotcha!

Well, your avatar shows a head up a butt. Why do you have that thing anyway? But wouldn't it be awesome if you got me suspended or banned? Totally epic! :yikes:

I made a deal with Kitz, and i am sticking to it

Yeah, he said you could remove it when you stopped just making stuff up and presenting it as if it were true or even reasonable. At least you understand that you have not reached that point. You seem to be making no progress at all.

I had to change it because Tricky encouraged me to do it. Sorry Kitz :(

Naish's article shows pretty well that the Cadborosaurus paper is a joke when it comes down to science. Use a pic (and a poor quality one) to describe a species is far from being sound. Especially when you can not rule out the hoax possibility.

And, as usual in cryptozoology, the pic's quality and detail level in no way can support the interpretations from LeBlond and Bousfield.

Carefull with what gets entangled in your net, WP...

Yet Naish is the one who BELIEVES that there are hidden species out there (specifically Pinnipeds) that resemble caddy.

Well, I cut a promo for MonsterTalk. Anybody with a podcast is welcome to include it in their own. Hopefully it's not too risqué.

http://www.monstertalk.org/shows/MT_PROMO_001.mp3

Question: Do you think this MonsterTalk discussion should be moved over to the Skeptical Podcasts thread?

Awesome and not at all too risqué. I am going to include that promo on my on my FB and other music-related sites.

I say don't move the discussion from here because of the higher view numbers but simply have another there. In this thread we can discuss the show and its issues. Maybe have another thread just to promo the show in Skeptical Podcasts. I will really be looking forward to an orang pendek show as that's the one I like the most for cryptids.

Glen Kuban (http://paleo.cc) has done extensive research on two cases important to monster enthusiasts.

Cool; I love his site. If you need to "fill some space" on the show, ask him about the fake sea serpent carcass some taxidermist made.

His article explaining the true nature of the “mysterious” carcass netted by the Japanese fishing vessel Zuiyo-maru and his decades long investigation into the alleged “giant humanoid tracks” in the Paluxy fossil bed in Texas both highlight the importance of a thorough investigation before assuming the remarkable is true. In the case of the Zuiyo-Mary, the carcass bore a preliminary similarity to plesiosaur remains – an animal which should have been extinct for millions of years.[/QUOTE]

It blows my mind that there are still people out there who think that carcass wasn't a rotting basking shark.

Our next guest is a paleontologist who specializes in prehistoric aquatic reptiles like the plesiosaur. I'm hoping he'll be able to tell us MUCH more about what we'd actually expect to see if such animals were still alive today.

I forget where I read this, but I recall reading that it was felt that plesiosaurs' necks probably would have evolved to hang down more (and thus not be able to rise them up in the manner that pop culture depicts them) so they'd have easier access to the bottom-dwellers they feed on.

I find it hilarious that people keep missing the fact that there are known Pinnipeds that resemble Caddy (elephant seals).

That is very true, and seems more likely than an unknown species
