Monsanto

She kinda has that "Hot Donna" look (see That 70's Show) goin' on. I tried dating some hippie girls back in my youth, but I couldn't handle the marijuana smoke and patchouli oil.

Yeah, there's a passing resemblance to Laura Prepon. Long as the right parts are shaved, I'll handle the patchouli (made plenty of marijuana smoke myself so I can't complain about that!)

I think Central Scrutinizer said several pages ago, that she (I believe that is correct), never met an anti-GMO person who wasn't a liar and a deceiver. Yet if you paint such a broad stroke, I've yet to see a pro-GMO person who wasn't a liar and a deceiver. The truth is, if we paint such a broad picture we can't see the finer points. If there was no concern of Monsanto products, then most EU countries wouldn't have them banned. If the foods were safe for consumption, then the most progressive nations on Earth wouldn't find fault with them. This isn't the case. What is it that Europeans are so scared of? It can't be nothing.

Yes, it can. The Europeans are irrational on this issue, their opinions are contrary to the scientific evidence..

No one is doubting there are "concerns" regarding Monsanto products- we're saying these concerns are nonsense (as far as the anti-GMO stuff generally goes). Irrational concerns can manifest themselves in legislation but that doesn't make them any less irrational.

This.

Politicians ignore science and listen to their Oprah-watching constituents. It's all about getting re-elected. I think part of it is also that Monsanto is huge and American.

Do you recall Germany's reaction to Fukushima? They can and have been scared of nothing. Recently.

Even if GM is all upside and no downside, tying your future to the whim of a (foreign) monopoly supplier might not be the best business strategy in the world.

Yeah, because as we all know, once you use Monsanto seeds, you can't ever use anything else.

A more sensible way of saying that is that if you become dependent on GM seeds then it may become uneconomic to try to revert back to the non-GM seeds.

If your neighbour grows GM crops then you would probably have to do likewise to compete. If roundup resistant GM crops lead to the rise of super-insects, then it may no longer be feasible to use non-GM crops because they wouldn't be able to cope with the amount of roundup needed to control the evolved insects. Antibiotic resistant diseases didn't become a problem in hospitals until antibiotics were over-used.

Hold up there just a minute. Glyphosate is an herbicide, not an insecticide.

This is how I feel about the iPhone.
