Well stated.

Due the level of heavy emotion and lack of complete information involved in the specifics of Brown's death and the cop's role in it, I honestly feel that I cannot make any specific claims one way or the other on those questions.

I'm still open to anything (being a good skeptic), but the pendulum is swinging Wilson's way.

However, what I will say is that I think the local police royally frakked up their initial response to the early protests, especially with the idiocy of arresting reporters, bringing out snipers and military gear, etc. All that nonsense only, in my view, made matters far worse for the community and everyone (protesters, police, etc) involved and just fed the firestorm. So in the moment when the local authorities could have helped to defuse a potentially dangerous situation, they appear to have done almost everything wrong.

The riots are a separate issue.

A lot of people missed this really amazing post (the first one, so far as I can tell, to give "Josie's" account), which is consistent with what witness said at the scene, transcribed in the link below).

It's a transcript of an overheard conversation at the scene. Right-wingers seem to regard it as more legitimate because the people talking in the background didn't know they were being recorded, so one person "honestly" related his version of events. Of course, it's easy to just cherry-pick whatever witness report comports to what you already believe. More interestingly, it seems to independently corroborate what a self-described "friend" of the (wife?) of the officer said when providing the officer's version of the story to radio talk show.

The radio call-in happened on the 15th, and the woman on the line says that Brown went down after he was shot in the forehead, which is remarkable because it precedes the public release of an autopsy.

Not directly.

Logically, there are some eye witnesses that support each side.

I suspect the media was much more interested in some than others.

Also, in that area, publicly saying that you witnessed the "police version" of events might not be good for your health.

For the record, we should be reminded that eye witness testimony is among the worst forms of evidence presentable in court. This also goes for the eye witness testimony allegedly supporting those who claim Brown was shot in cold blood.

Thus, I place little to no value on reports such as these.

...Of course the reason there isn't as much discussion on these police is because next to no one is defending them. We don't have people calling them gentle giants, or great family men, or the like to excuse their bad behavior. We have had I think one poster here defend their actions and try to minimize them. I disagree with that, but it's also not going to generate much discussion....

BTW, the police chief called Wilson a good cop, no problems, and the picture of him getting a commendation has made the same rounds as Brown's robbery video.
