Xbox does have a point. Most research chemicals come from China; I know for a fact that companies selling these chemicals on the Internet get them from China and that there are some Chinese companies that will sell them directly to consumers in the USA. They are also probably the main source of chemicals needed to make MDMA (which I love so thank you China) and methamphetamine.

As for the this guy being executed, well if he was really insane, it sucks that the Chinese executed him. But, I doubt this is true. More likely that it is a ruse in an attempt to get him off. And really, if you are stupid enough to traffic 4kg of heroin to China, you are deserving of a Darwin Award. And this is coming from a guy that thinks drugs should be legalized.

Where'd you get that? There was no evidence that his mental health was assessed.

His behaviour didn't indicate severe mental instability? The trip to China to launch a pop career? That song that he thought would usher in World peace? The letters about being the messiah? The trip to Poland to build an airport?

More likely that it is a ruse in an attempt to get him off.

So why not have a mental health evaluation? What's the harm? We would then at least know one way or the other, not be stuck in the situation now in which we will never know.

A few Asian country don't jack about death sentence for drug smuggler or drug trafficker. You would really have to be mentally ill or desperate for quick buck to try to bring drug in those countries.

A fair question. But what's the harm in delaying the execution and carrying out a psychiatric review -something the Chinese authorities haven't done- given the history of his bizarre behaviour? We're talking about a Human life here.

Do you deny his behaviour has indicated mental instability?

The first question has to be whether such a report could have been used as a defence under the Chinese legal system. If it couldn't then I can see understand why the Chinese would not order such an evaluation. Anyone know?

I don't think relations are likely to change with 7.5% of Britain's imports (2008, CIA World Factbook) coming from China.

This nugget from the state news agency also: 'The use of the capital punishment creates an effective deterrent against drug trafficking'. Apparently the number of people executed is a state secret so don't think we'll see proof of this any time soon.

But apparently no actual medical reports of that. If he had had a diagnosis of bipolar disorder then how come such medical records were not supplied?

I have personally seen lives destroyed, been to funerals of users 'nodding off' whilst driving,spoken to a thai addict who sold his 7 year old daughter to a brothel for heroin,
seen an australian addict not shed a tear when her mother died yet cry like a baby when unable to 'get on' (get more heroin).

Just think about this: the british empire forced china to buy all the opium it could sell at gunpoint, look up 'opium wars'. chinese have long memories.

I can well understand his family trying to use anything to try and stay his execution, and I don't agree with his execution at all but I do remain very sceptical as to the mental illness claims. Plus as I said I'd want to know if such mental issues could have been used as part of a legal defence in the Chinese courts.
