May 2007 Stundie Nominations

Why would flying to New York be a problem? Tell the pilots you plan to land at LaGuardia and will exchange the passengers for terrorists held in Israeli jails. There would have been no reason to resist the hijackers. Before 9/11, that was standard practice. When the plane is close enough to the city, the terrorists take over the controls.

And lo, the great ENTITY looked down upon this forum of non-believers and saw that the crazy had diminished. Christophera was no more. This saddened the BEING and he pondered.

Then, after was seemed an endless eternity HE smiled and spoke in a thundering voice, "Send the Kirkman unto them, let the balance be restored."

You started the post so well and then drifted into the same sort of vein of posting as your colleagues, which is a shame because I have noticed that you have a reasonable streak in your posting.

The debate is the validity of the Stundie nomination based upon rational analysis of the quote selected for nomination. This is why I intend to debate it in here rather than in the thread it was originally posted. I have no control over your perception of my posts as you describe them in the phrase "Childlike-esque holier-than-thou attitude". All I can do is ask you to read back and notice that it is me that is remaining factual and rational in the analysis whilst few others are able to. If that is "Childlike-esque holier-than-thou attitude" then so be it.

It is clear to me that EugeneAxeman was saying that a controlled demolition was the only explanation for the towers falling in a similar time span since undermining the structure beneath the falling sections would essentially put both masses into freefall in which case they would follow Galileo's principle. He is proposing that as the falling mass of one tower was greater than the other, if the structure under each was not undermined then the greater falling mass with the greater kinetic energy would destroy the structure beneath it more effectively. I can see no other logical analysis of what he has said.

EugeneAxeman's analysis may be based upon an initially false premise (CD) but it is not Stundieworthy.

What EugeneAxeman is clearly NOT saying is that Galileo was wrong, which was the basis of Dave Roger's nomination.
But the premise is wrong. You do not understand momentum and gravity, and you missed the subtle wrongness of the truthy statement. Wrong all around now. Your post are stundie nominations for not being able to explain why Dave was right in more than one way. Subtle energy stuff, real engineering may be needed to understand. Kind of dry, and maybe too much of an inside joke for some. You may be trying to hard to find fault with something you do not understand. If you have problems you should study more.

Mr. Kirkman seems to be convinced that it would be impossible for the hijackers to locate New York after lifting off from Boston.

Hell, even without GPS it's not that difficult to do something along the lines of ... "Hmm, Boston is on the coast and New York is south on the coast. I'll keep the coast on my left."
Kirkman has problems remembering his Mensa score. Why would he understand the terrorist, at least 4, learned to fly. They learned how to tune a box labeled VOR. They were able to dial in a freq like 113.1, and a needle magically points to NYC, or a spot near the Pentagon. Follow arrow, crash plane. Pilots learn to fly, set freq, fly plane. Me land now.

Box points to place, drive airplane to point. See building, fly into it. Too simple for Kirkman to understand, how does he type?

And your method would be great if you did not understand the nav stuff. Yes, take plane follow coast, look for big buildings, fly around, see WTC. Your method works, and has been used by lost pilots. Logic.

That's ridiculous. No one could ever see a huge city like New York from the air. The very idea is laughable at best. You hear that? I laugh at your idea! ;)

I submit that Johhny Five is not alive and should therefore be disassembled and analyzed to determine the source of his bizarre malfunction.

I think it's that damn cup of coffee he never quite drinks. It's driven him mad!

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but they already closed May, and the June thread has been up for some little time.

Repost, if you want him in the running.

Rolfe.

Damnit! Thanks for the heads up. Haven't been posting much lately. Yes, I think I will nominate him for June. This quotation cannot go un-nominated.

Why are nominations closed? This one is from May, still:

Nominations from very late in the month can be nominated for the next month's Stundies. The cut off point is when I grab the nominations from the net to sort through on my computer, but it doesn't invalidate any nominations, they just have to be nominated for the next month.

The timing seems strange because my timezone is out of whack with yours.

I third this motion.

At the risk of being unpopular, I don't think that this is a good idea - it may encourage people to vote for the possible 'Kirkman' winner over other candidates. And if someone wins three times, we'll have to invent a new award.

What if the Malcolm Kirkman Medal is awarded to the runner up of the Stundies each month?

I just finished the first 'sorting' process...this month will probably be the busiest and best month so far!

Expect the voting thread to be up tomorrow, or in two days time at the latest.
