Matt Lauer fired

Morning show person in the US.

A mainstay and important anchor for The Today Show for over 20 years. Hosted many events like the Olympics, Macy's Thanksgiving day parade, and many exposes and investigations. Coming on the heels of several other prominent figures in entertainment and news, this is a big deal.

Even Trump had an opinion (of course he did). He made it about his favorite pet issue, of course.

Trump Twitter said:
Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for 'inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.' But when will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News."

Not a surprise. Lauer's behavior was an open secret and ongoing for a long time. My neighbor works at NBC and we discussed this several years ago.

It's strange that CNN's story didn't point out that NBC failed to get this wave of sexual harassment stories going when they bailed on Ronan Farrow's Weinstein reporting. It seems likely this contributed to the apparent speed with which this decision was made.

The most important question, though, is does this sacking discredit by association all the liberals in the world or all the conservatives in the world?

None or all of them, apparently. According to Bill O’Reilly:

He is not registered with a political party, and there are no political donations in his name. Widely considered to be socially liberal, Lauer is generally courteous to all points of view on the air.

Oh crap let me go look up his political leanings so I can generate the approved amount of "Whataboutism."

So what did he do? Did he grab people by their genitals or bottoms? Pressure people into having sex? Masturbate in front of people in his office?

Inquiring minds want to know dammit!

Would be ironic if sacking Lauer would discredit Liberals. After all, Lauer may have been a factor in Trump's victory. Remember back in the 2016 elections, there was the town-hall debate on foreign policy where Lauer interviewed both candidates. Clinton was hammered for a good 10 minutes on her emails, while Lauer treated Trump with kid gloves (allowing him to get away with some pretty blatant lies... his support of the Iraq and Libyan wars).

I'm not saying Lauer was the only thing that led to Trump's victory (and in some ways he's more of a symbol of the failure of the media as a whole to deal with Trump.) But, had he actually been competent at his job, maybe some of Trump's lies would have had more exposure early on.
