Matt Gaetz reported to be leaving the House

I am genuinely surprised that Gaetz had the self-awareness to withdraw from the nomination process and/or that Republican senators signalled that they were willing to impede this appointment.
I get the impression that it was the latter. Many of the articles that I've read imply that Trump told Gaetz to drop out.

Well, Pam Bondi, one of Donny's "successful" young blonde lawyers got the nod to replace Gaetz VERY rapidly. Maybe all that botox made his jaw too tight and brought back his gag reflex?

I listen to Sarah Isgur, her opinion was basically, let Trump have him because for the most part the president should get what he want's and it could be worse. I can't help but wonder who could trump pick that is worse and I'm pretty sure he can so........IDK, some mob lawyer?

Matt Gaetz, who withdrew from consideration as attorney general in Donald Trump’s cabinet over ethics allegations, says he will not return to his seat in the US House of Representatives.

Gaetz told a conservative radio host: “I’m still going to be in the fight, but it’s going to be from a new perch.”

He picked Pam Bondi, who has experience as a state AG, so she could be worse in that she might know how to do the job Trump wants.

Pam Bondi has been a Trump anal polyp since he first ran.

"Bondi was elevated in the primary after she was endorsed by former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin."

That should disqualify her right there!

"She campaigned on a message to use the state’s top legal office in a robust way, challenging then-President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. She also called for her state to adopt Arizona’s “show me your papers” immigration law that sparked national debate."

"Bondi was also among a group of Republicans who showed up to support Trump at his hush money criminal trial in New York that ended in May with a conviction on 34 felony counts."

"As president, Trump demanded investigations into political opponents like Hillary Clinton and sought to use the law enforcement powers of the Justice Department to advance his own interests, including in trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Bondi appears likely to oblige him."

"Trump cut a $25,000 check to a political committee supporting Bondi from his family’s charitable foundation, in violation of legal prohibitions against charities supporting partisan political activities. After the check came in, Bondi’s office nixed suing Trump’s company for fraud, citing insufficient grounds to proceed. Both Trump and Bondi denied wrongdoing."

I just read an article on the Daily Beast that said he could still take the seat in the house come January. The logic goes something like this, he resigned from his current house session seat, but, since he was just reelected to that seat in the upcoming house session, which hasn't started yet, he could still take it, because it's not the one he resigned from. I don't know if that line of thought is in fact possible or not, but that was what they were proposing. That same article included a comment from Gaetz's wife that implied he was done with politics altogether.
We can only hope that's the case.
That’s right, he’s married! Such a lucky girl!

It is always, always transactional with Trump, whether it be praise/worship, $$$$, or leverage.
