Matt Gaetz reported to be leaving the House

I think we can say that Democracy is in suspended animation until Trump and his nominees to the SC are gone.
To paraphrase an old joke involving Gandhi, while on a visit to a Detroit factory he was aske by a reporter, "Mr Gandhi, sir, what do you think of American democracy?" Looking around, after a while Gandhi replied "Yes, I think it would be a very good idea."

I disagree, I think he has an excellent chance of being appointed. I'd be very surprised if any Republican senators are willing to actually vote against his appointment. Sure, they may be willing to grumble off the record but they cannot afford to draw the ire of Trump and the MAGA crowd and find themselves being primaried.

This of course assumes that Trump doesn't make any contentious appointments during a period of senate recess.

I'm not so sure that Trump will go the recess appointment route. I think he wants a clear victory and to humiliate any people briefing against him so he'll bring Gaetz to the Senate and dare the senators to defy his will.
The very most they'll do is look for a whitewash "investigation" to cover their behinds like they did when it was revealed that Kavanaugh was an alcoholic rapist.

Failing to confirm Gaetz (and RFK Jr, and Gabbard) isn't going to stop the Republicans from having power. It's just going to force Trump to pick (at least halfway) reasonable nominees. You may be unaware of this, but Republican-controlled Senates have in the recent past declined to confirm nominees of Republican presidents (including Trump 45), although the nominee is generally withdrawn in order to avoid the embarrassment of being voted down.
What you're forgetting is that fuhrerprinzip is the only game in town now. If you don't show total loyalty to T****y, you're goosed.

He's already been appointed; the question is whether he will be confirmed. I say there won't even be a vote.
More than half of Senate Republicans, including some in senior leadership positions, privately say they don’t see a path for former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., to be confirmed as attorney general and would not support him to lead the Department of Justice, according to multiple people who spoke to NBC News on condition of anonymity.
Collins and Murkowski have already announced they will be no votes. The rest seem to be using the warning language of not seeing a path, and the uphill climb ahead. At some point Gaetz will ask to pull the nomination rather than suffering the humiliation. Again, I see Gaetz as almost intended to be the nomination that Republican senators can use to demonstrate their independence of Trump, so the rest of his cabinet can sail through.

How? Trump isn't president.

By the way, I posted in the thread challenging persons to come up with worse nominees than those Trump has already done, with regard to
Gaetz, and I probably should have posted hit here, but I'll skip the commentary and just post the link. At the end of the ten years stated, he is now 42 You can do the arithmetic.

ETA...Having had a few minutes to reconsider here, I must add that, though it is amusing and may very well be true, it also may very well be a fake tweet.

I come up with 14. Anyone else come up with 14?

If he's denied the position, he can't go back to the Senate, and he's completely done, right?
Don't be silly! There's a whole new outside-the-government-but-has-authority body created by the king! He can sit beside royal favorite Musk and the Other Guy and dream up stupid, stupid ideas for how to ruin the country. He can be in charge of interviewing the unpaid interns Musk is soliciting, and do a little soliciting of his own.

There's plenty of room at the top in the kakistocracy! After all, it floats.

So, is this supposed to calculate the minimum age of the date; or the maximum size of the gap. The formula was "the general formula concerning age gap dating is to halve one's age and subtract seven." So, he references ten years ago and is now 41. Ten years ago, by the former assumption, his minimum age date was (31/2)-7 = 8.5. Did he figure it was ok to date an eight-year-old?

IANAL, but I'm a better one than Gaetz.

It should be you can date half your age plus 7, so if you're 20 you can get away with 17, but that's about as close as it gets to being controversial. At 31, his dates could be as young as about 22.

Well, that's the arithmetic, which is pretty ridiculous, but I think I got Poed on that one. I mean, there's a strong probability here that though Gaetz is probably both perverted and lnnumerate, this post is not his.

Of course there are some other reasons to oppose Gaetz, but most of them are minor.

He's basicly admitting that he "stopped" raping children at age 32.

Not that I'd believe a word out of his mouth.

he certainly hasn't stopped having plastic surgery.
So many high-profile Republicans hate their bodies so much that they spent fortunes to be made to look like Ken and Barbie.
