I've seen times when people try to abuse occam's razor that would fit that description, though. The old "describe the opposing view in the most complicated way and my view in a single simple statement" routine.

For example: What seems more likely, that the government, who we know lies all the time, is telling the truth about launching men safely through the deadly radiation of the Van Allen belt, was able to land absolutely perfectly on the moon, make a flag wave where there shouldn't be any wind, make a second safe trip through the Van Allen belt, and land safely in the ocean; or that they faked the whole thing?

Obviously not a proper application of Occam's razor, but it doesn't stop some from trying. And improper application of a principle is not a reason to dismiss that principle out of hand.

Saw a headline on yahoo about the top 10 conspiracy theories, so I took a look. Most of the comments are by rational people, but someone is a bit out there. I have heard the crap about Silverstein and the insurance, but I never heard he did quite so well:

In July of 2001 the Trade Centers were sold to a private individual - Larry Silverstein, with an insurance policy for 230 billion should the towers be destroyed by a terrorist attack. Coincidence?

more than $24,000 per square foot of leaseable space.

The symbol in the eye of the hurricane is obviously the Anarchy "A". So it was created by anarchists. Who knew they were so well versed in weather control?

While I was typing this Neil Young's "Hurricane" came on the radio. That's PROOF of a conspiracy. Of some sort. Mind reading, or something. I'll figure it out and let you know.

This struck me:
You tell the thousands of New Yorkers that all watched the plane with their own eyes that it was CGI'd into thin air. You also tell all the people that filmed the first and second planes that all of their video tapes were magically altered and had a CGI plane added in. I wonder what the ones with home videos will say...

So truthers are happy to, "debunk" the no planers with witness claims of watching the planes hit BUT at the pentagon the witnesses who saw Flight 77 hit were fooled.
