The point remains, drop everything to start 24/7 news coverage on all three major news networks is not useful. Not only do they spend 90% of the time speculating which is not news, it encourages yet more attacks. These people want attention.

When your kid has a temper tantrum, they also want attention. The response is to give them a time out.

Of course not. But then, 24/7 news coverage is not useful to begin with.

The point is that, unfortunately, big events like this tend to attract and keep attention more than smaller events that, in the end, cause more harm. That's human nature and it's neither surprising nor liable to change in the near future, so one wonders why you bring it up, except by sheer frustration, because doing so is not very useful, either.

And here I was thinking it sounds like typical mass killer (or potential killer) who blames everyone else for their troubles. Silly me, I should have known liberals will side with a guy planting bombs all over town. :rolleyes:

Did you think I was surprised when I posted my sarcastic remarks?

What is the usefulness of discussing anything in this forum? Maybe we need a hall monitor to sort out useful posts from those that aren't.

Which might have been the point.

This was the false claim about the LGBTQ cause taking credit:

Tumblr page claiming to be Chelsea bomber's 'manifesto' being vetted by NYPD
A police source told the Daily News the department is investigating the blog. Another source said the NYPD is speaking to local LGBT activists for any clues about the webpage.

The page, which had a rainbow flag in its banner, said the bombs are a protest against the oppression of the LGBT community— even though they were left in one of New York's most gay-friendly neighborhoods.

Which comes in bits and pieces and just causes more wild speculation

They don't release every bit of information. There was a lot they knew that was not released.
I think they release information when they believe it can help the investigation and when they feel it is important for the public to know.
At some point I believe they usually will also release what they feel the public has a right to know in a fairly open society.

I think you may be confusing the news media's information with the police releasing information. The two are not the same.

It was the original wording in reports of "Intended Bombing"

Since when have bombs appeared out of luck, nowhere, "I inadvertently mixed up some nails and bits of chemicals and looked what happened"?

Winston Smith could not have written it any better.

Intended as in, he tried to blow a lot of people up with a number of bombs. The bombing was not as severe as intended given that some of them didn't even explode and given that nobody was killed. I don't see anything Orwellian in the language.
