Manhattan explosion

CNN is now reporting that surveillance video shows the same guy at both bomb locations in Chelsea.

Put it on the ground under the base of the cooker (the strongest part). I'd give good odds on it surviving.
 
Reports saying that both Chelsea and New Jersey bombs used flip phones as timers.

They are calling the bombs in NY & NJ as amateurish and with poor training if any. In NY one of them didn't detonate and in NJ there were 3 pipe bombs tied together with only one detonating. Witness in NJ saw black smoke.
 
Worst case scenario: ISIS coordinated attacks in NYC, NJ, and Minnesota.

That bomb blew the **** out of the steel trash container, they are very lucky no one died.

Did they switch to 24/7 coverage of Bridgegate? Or did they just beat the story to death like Clinton's emails?

Umm, no. The second bomb was a couple blocks away. It looks like it didn't do off maybe because it was so poorly made. If connected to the pipe bombs in NJ, they didn't all go off either. The bomb in NJ missed its target. The bomb in NY was shielded by the dumpster.

And now it looks like they already have a good video of the guy near both NY bomb sites and maybe the car he drove from NJ to NY.


All of this is tentative info of course.

The photo shows a mangled container, but I am speculating that it didn't contain the bomb. It seems too intact for that. I'm guessing that it was very near the bomb.

I don't think so. The reason it didn't kill anyone nearby is because it was inside the dumpster which directed the blast force upward. They showed the same thing on Mythbusters tossing a bomb into the front end of a dump truck, very much like a dumpster.

So indeed the dumpster was blown apart.

It will be interesting to see if the bomber put the bomb in the dumpster or if a passerby put it in there, picking up trash.

News reports are someone picked up the other bomb which was in a duffle bag, put the pressure cooker on the sidewalk and left with the duffle bag. I hope that guy comes forward.

Authorities are looking for more video to build a timeline of his movements Saturday evening. Surveillance shows the same man on 27th Street about 10 minutes later with the same duffel bag, leaving it where police found an unexploded pressure cooker, multiple law enforcement sources said.

After the man leaves, the video shows two men removing from the duffel bag a white garbage bag believed to contain the pressure cooker, according to a senior law enforcement official and another source familiar with the video.

The men then walked away with the duffel bag the sources said.

Investigators have not determined if those two men are connected to the man dragging the duffel bag on both streets, the sources said.

What did I get wrong? Because I don't think I disagree with anything in your post except I have no clue who will or will not come forward.

But, now that they've arrested 5 guys, all bets are off on whether the random guy stealing the duffle bag was connected or not.

NYT confirming that the five were detained but nothing about arrest. Link is updated article from half-an-hour ago. The Times won't be going with speculation, so they aren't the "go to" for ideas/theories, but they'll have the most accurate information, being local.

CNN is also confirming none of the 5 were arrested. That doesn't jive with this report of finding there were pipe bombs involved with the traffic stop which I saw on some obscure web page. Guess that web page was bunk.

I suppose they'll explain (maybe not) but I'm having trouble seeing a link between poorly made pipe bombs and the devices (purportedly both the same) in Manhattan. It just seems like two different methods/attempts. The NJ device was targeting a fundraiser for Marines(?), the Manhattan bombs are random... or seemingly so.

The only connection the news is reporting is the similar flip-type cell phones. It's not like flip phones are very common these days.

As for poorly made, it sounds like both incidents involved poorly made bombs or at least poorly executed plans.
