He only came out like, last year?
In October 2005, Takei revealed in an issue of Frontiers magazine that he is gay [...]
Nevertheless, Takei's sexuality had long been an open secret among Trek fans since the 1970s, and Takei did not conceal his active membership in gay organizations [...]
So where do you draw the line? How much would gay marrage have to cost before you considered it unfeasible? Of couse due to spending on weddings there are some economic advantages but it is questionable if they offset inheritance tax issues.
.I've been following Star Trek since the rerun boom of the 70's, and I don't recall ever hearing anything like this, or even speculation on it (except maybe for the Sulu/Chekov jokes).

Whatever an actor's personal life is or isn't, it's not the character he or she portrays... unless their stature is such that they have morphed the character into their lives, as John Wayne managed to do.
Whatever Takei is off-screen, I could care even less than what his character was on-screen.
I find fan worship of any media star to be demeaning to the fan who apparently has no life, apparently unable to comprehend the screen character is merely the invention of the script writer(s).
