I did a search of this thread and the very first use of the word "scumbag" is this one. To repeat what has been said again and again, posters asking for evidence - no matter how ill-put you think the request might be - is not any sort of personal comment.

Remember your thread topic: Looking for Skeptics. Guess what? You found some. Good. Guess what skeptics do: they ask questions about claims. Good for them. Now, please carry on the spirit of this thread which you started and don't fall into the trap of taking posts personally.

It touches a raw nerve, but I know what to expect, I promised myself I'd bite my lip, I'd feel the same. I am looking forward to Mr Alderbank's hands-on approach. After this, it gets easier.

I was going to suggest this.. Allow Mr Alderbank to have a chat with the spirits, and see what they come up with? Once Mr Alderbank's is convinced "something" is worth testing, then we can discuss a test. What d'you think?

No you don't understand it from my point of view. Mr Bulger has had a terrible time, I unintentionally put him through a nightmare. As this began back in October, Mr Bulger was present and saw what the spirit put me through that day. Mr Bulger has never had Hands-on. He has only heard what sounded like his voice over a landline. Hands-on, hardly isn't asking him again is it.

floccan, I am so pleased that you have returned to this debate and the controlled trial is still on. Yes, any day good for you is good for me. Also there's no need to convince me. I'm sure doing a trial is worthwhile. In fact it is the only thing which will move this thread on.

I will cheerfully donate £100 to Diabetes UK if the trial fails to debunk your claim that spirits exist, have voices and are performing amazing art work in millimetres.

You said you wanted to leave it to the spirits to propose a protocol. Have you had any thoughts yet? There are plenty of experts on this forum to help us develop a robust test which is fair to all sides and everyone can agree on.

I am sure that Alderbank will know the difference between a silent recording, and a non-silent recording. He will come to his own conclusion as to where the voices are coming from.

Oh fantastic ! Yes that was my thought, to have a chat to them, and move on to a more deserving test, once it is established its worth testing. They won't let us down Alderbank. 5pm Sunday is good yes?

Tell you what Maurice, I set it at a grand because it's all I have. If the first sceptic debunks it, I pay the grand, and take the offer down. This will not happen. Diabetes Charity is a cert in my eyes :)
 
Is anyone here a member of Merseyside Skeptics? Know them?

Liverpool isn't that far. MS are rather active, run a podcast, etc... Would it be a possible good idea to get in touch with them? I hope so, because I did.

I think that any preliminary "look/see" needs to be recorded from "Hi, you Tracey? I'm Alderbank. Nice to meet you."

I wouldn't take your money. I doubt a skeptic here wants your money. I can't speak for everyone, but I think we just want you on team reality.

Are you preparing responses on a saved Word Document? On Notepad? You have managed to screw up the formatting of every message you're quoting.

Just hit "Quote". Don't use an external editor. (Or get some Monster Cables. I'm sure the spirits would love the plush new digs.)

These meetings take place in the function room of a pub, not in the middle of the bar. It's no more noisy than most people's living rooms.
 
I don't want to take your money either floccan. If you lose you might want to consider a donation to a charity. James Randi Educational Foundation would be appropriate.

Let's get back to the test. Flashcards. How would that work? What would success be for you and what would be failure? How would it be decided?

The fact is that you have yet to show us voices on a computer, let alone more. All you've shown us so far is examples of visual or audio pareidolia.

Are you willing to do a controlled test with Alderbank or not? That seems to be the only way in which any progress at all can be made.

I use Word half the time. Doesn't happen to me. I think what she's doing is quoting the wrong post, then fixing it. It happened to me too... ☻☺☻
