Looking for Skeptics - Continuation (Cassidy's EVP/diamond damage claim)

I can understand where he is coming from with the two separate sounds entering the same microphone one would expect them to be equally affected, if any affect is present, of course.
I would at least expect to have the recording hardware tested for consistency and have this stated and verified. This would need to be stated in the protocol.

Daylightstar, please guide me on how to do that zip file upload.
I create a zip file and add the recording to it? If so, how do I attach it?

The tone does actually disappear rather than fade out (It stops dead after a few seconds) The ticking remains loud and clear (Just tested it out again) A technical malfunction would likely impair both noises?

Testing the functioning of recording hardware for consistency under normal conditions could help determine the hardware may be working correctly.

Completely different recording hardware may be run simultaneously during a test.

Simply producing an audio file with one sound stopping, although the microphone receives both sounds unchanged is rather unlikely to have the JREF pay you one million dollars, as it is not self evident that such an occurrence is independent of science’s present measure.
It is important for you to understand that in this context, whatever you (or anyone else) believe about this is entirely irrelevant.

Sure. Below the Quick Reply area at the bottom of the page, click on "Go Advanced".
Else, click the quote button of a post.
Either way will get you to the advanced reply area.

Scroll down to "Additional Options", in the "Attach Files" area click the "Manage Attachments" button.
You'll get a popup window where in the top you'll see two "Choose File" buttons. Click one of them and choose the file you want to attach.
Then, click on the "Upload" button" to the right of the "Choose File" buttons and your zip file will be attached.
When the system has attached your file you'll see it in that window under "Current Attachments".
Click the "Close this window" bar in the upper right corner of the upload window.
You'll get back to the edit window, below which is the "Additional Options" area where under "Attach Files" you'll see your file listed as an attachment, right above the "Manage Attachments" button.

Open this post in a separate window if you need this (somewhat convoluted) post to be right there on your screen when you give it a try.

It's good to know that spirits know how to decode and encode digital music files. In case you didn't know how analog music signals are turned into digital....the analog signal passes through an "A to D converter" chip. This chip measures the voltage level of the analog signal and assigns it a binary number equivalent. It does this 10s of thousands of times a second (44,000 is the general standard) which "paints" the shape of the analog signal.

So if your spirits are modifying digital music files...they are modify MILLIONS of 8 or 16 or 24 bit binary number sequences to "redraw" the analog wave. Didn't know spirits were so tech savvy.

If it is a "possible" technical malfunction, how would that be proven? The recording hardware is malfunctioning. It is faulty, but not in a usual manner.

If I record a straight tone without the ticking, the tone stops dead and leaves behind an electronic-like voice.

Having two new PC's on stand-by, is so I can attempt to transfer this sort of "malfunctioning" into one or both PC's.

Could the program she is using have a multi channel feature like the ones used by DJs and there are parameters not properly set? Again, this is coming from near ignorance of these things. But then, when has that stopped people from commenting. :)

.. taking a perfect diamond and causing internal alterations, can be measured.
This can be measured.

Transferring their activity from PC to PC can be measured too.
This cannot be measured. Too many variables. Give it up.

What sucks is there's a million dollars in a vault, that the spirits are trying to release and hand to charity. So if you think they suck, at least their intentions don't.

Their intentions suck so hard, like a vacuum cleaner the size of a black hole. If they could simply whisper the cards to you in any way — Boom! You got the mill.

I think these spirits are inside you and part of you knows this. That's the reason why they never actually do anything unusual.

The old thread did all this sound silliness to death.

Flaccon/Cassidy goes out of her way to use weird software (last time it was some webcam rubbish) at the highest compression to produce mp3 (and the like) files.

She then listens to them with an awe-inspiring capacity for credulity. Naturally, she hears everything and anything she wants to.

Naturally, no one else does; unless they're under her sway or trying to help/back away from her like various doctors.

Files have been produced, uploaded, attached, dropboxed, emailed. One of the members here (Alderbank, I think) even went to her home and (like a boss) listened to this rubbish in person.

There's nothing there, there. There's only pareidolia in compressed audio. Exactly the same noise that lets people see faces on jpg photos of Mars. The more faces and alien cities they want to see, the higher they crank-up the compression factor.

It's all silly.

If anyone wants to entertain this frail person, they should concentrate on the diamond thing. That stands a miniscule chance of a binary decision.

I predict it will spin on and on. What is damage? Oh it's this and this, but and oh I forgot and the spirits don't agree and no this other thing.

Just watch.

This has already been hand waved away back in the original thread. The spirits won't do tricks is what Cassidy/Flaccon was told when asked if the spirits could do anything useful or substantial. Instead the spirits like messing with hard drives and diamonds.

It seems the spirits can't do anything testable through scientifically valid experimental methodology. Which is convenient.

I know. Actually my comments were directed to the "not cassidys" in the discussion.

Also vibrations from loose screws.
:boxedin: sorry, can't help it.

Whatever is actually happening which Cassidy is interpreting as paranormal, she will never accept it. Even if we indulge her by helping her set up proper experiments, examining files etc and prove that its the same combination of ignorance and imagination as the last time we did so, she will dismiss us in favour of whatever crumbs of encouragement she can get (eg from her clearly way out of his depth GP).

The OP has already indicated that failing an agreed upon, proper test won't affect her faith in the claim one iota... so basically any outcome will mean exactly the same thing.

Difficult to say.

Because what's described is impossible.

It however surprises me that you, as a sound engineer, would not consider hardware related controls, simply because you haven't heard of anything producing a fading effect.

A fading effect on one sound, but not the other.

But, again, if you have any controls to suggest, I would welcome them.

Sure it is, unless you can suggest an explanation which relies entirely on currently understood physics.

None of this accurately describes the claim about a consistent tone fading out while a ticking remains. That is a paranormal claim, and I have already set out a protocol for how it could be tested in an objective, empirical way.
