Local News

Let's see. We just had a murder/suicide in my town. It is a tiny town. Not much ever happens here, so that was weird. Also, they were tourists from Escuintla, which is on the Pacific Coast. First murder I can remember in years and years here.

Yeah I think I kinda get what you're saying. But still can get past your avatar.

Local election votes are being counted. Shinners not doing as well as they hoped.
Also divergent views from the ROs as to suspending the count for the Munster final.

And the 'Festival of Democracy' continues. Though like most festivals the food and drink prices are awful....
Not good at all for Sinn Féin; it seems Yeats was wrong, The Centre Can Hold.

Failed teacher, religious bigot and general whackjob Enoch Burke has lost his defamation action against the Sunday Independent over an article which wrongly stated he was in danger of being beaten while in prison and had to be moved because he was repeatedly expressing his religious beliefs.

In a judgment issued this morning, Mr Justice Rory Mulcahy said while the contents of the article were untrue, they did not injure his reputation.

Oh dear.

Now if they had said he had been embraced by his fellow prisoners and he was a well regarded prisoner - now that would damage his reputation…

In Irish news that doesn't involve Enoch Burke, a serving member of the Permanent Defence Forces (Irish army) is given a suspended three year sentence for savagely beating a young woman unconscious after she told him to knock it off with the homophobic abuse.

Two things that make my blood boil in this case particularly 1) His superiors in the PDF were actually defending him at trial, despite all the evidence. No wonder our armed forces are in the toilet and 2) the dirty little cowardly scrote got off with a suspended sentence despite committing a grievous crime.

Judge Tom O'Donnell, said that Crotty’s actions on the night were "utterly appalling" and he had "no doubt" that if he imposed a jail sentence on him, his army "career is over".

So ******* what if his army career is over? This ******* beat a woman nearly to death! He should be locked away and shouldn't be allowed on the streets for the next five years!

My local news is full of gems like "HOT WEATHER MEANS HEAT FOR REGION". I had no idea, I was expecting snow.

My ipad isn’t translating that. I hope you’re safe.

Thanks. All safe and sound, though my house has crazy water damage!!!:thumbsup:

ETA: Holy ****, we have blue skies!!! I haven't seen the sun in weeks... and. of course, I'm working and can't get any Vitamin D today. Sigh.

It's so damn cold here right now. It's 1000 and 4°.

Canberra doesn't get as cold in winter as it gets in the really cold places in the world, but it gets hotter in summer than it does in those places.
