Some artist painted a mural in my neighborhood. They interviewed her and she took credit for reducing crime in the area by painting a mural previously, and she expects this one to have an even more powerful effect. It's not even what I'd consider to be a mural, it's just the word "Love" written in rainbow stripes. Badly.

There's a much better mural here by somebody else of a chicken in BDSM gear. I don't know what effect it has on crime, but I think it's funny.

This post made me laugh and, frankly, made my crappy day. Thank you :D

Well, the local council got a professional out muralist to decorate a bridge here. And it has cut down grafitti, on that bridge at least...

Have you noticed any marauding chickens?

Top headline in today's paper was that dogs were successfully rescued from a collapsed building. This is a very odd story with a definite paucity of information, claiming the need for privacy. The dogs, 30 in number, were all owned by some private person and not a breeder, and the reason for the building's collapse is unstated. But you'll be glad to know that the local pet shelter has coped, though they do acknowledge that that's rather a lot of dogs.

I've never seen hand sanitiser ignite.

I once saw a homeless guy chug an entire bottle of the stuff, though.

Guy I worked with, a vodka fan, checked the ingredients on the sanitizer at work, tried some and then said: "Eh, I've had worse."

(Try to imagine the above in a careworn Polish accent.)

:)

I have a very good friend who is Polish and know exactly the accent you're referring to.

In moderately odd news, an orangutan in Dublin Zoo isn't breastfeeding her offspring. So the solution is, well I'll leave you to read on. :D

There is a general problem, with animals raised in captivity, that, as infants, they don't see or experience feeding behaviours.

For this reason, people who rescue birds, or raise juveniles in captivity, minimise human to bird interactions, and feed the juveniles via glove puppets, while mimicking the sounds and behaviour of parent birds.

Here's an example:

I think this was mentioned in the Jurasic Park stories (not sure if it made it into the movies) but it would be an issue for the dinosaurs successfully reproducing.

(i.e. they wouldn't have experienced any nest building behaviours, nor feeding of the young etc. so most likely result of laying an egg, is that the parent just walks away and abandons it.)
