LIVE Million Dollar Challenge Test

TAM advertises to millions of folks who have never read the rules. When they call it a MILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE TEST ... some folks actually believe that a million bucks is being risked ... When WE know that isn't the case. The JREF risks nothing at TAM.

So the advertisement is totally misleading just like it was at DragonCon.

Reminds me of the ASTERISK HUNTER commercials.

The JREF has a big * :)

I would assume most who go to TAM are intelligent individuals who know the distinction between a prelimanary test and a actual one.
Shame you don't.

Of course, most of us are blessed with the ability to read. Maybe that is the difference...

The money is there and the contract from the challenge rules would be legally binding I believe. If JREF risks nothing, why do they keep the money around--a crafty lawyer wouldn't let that opportunity go.

There is no contract for the million ... Please show me where it is. Until you show me the contract there is NO MILLION DOLLARS at stake, so it ISN'T a million dollar challenge at all. It's simply false advertising!
HYPE!!!!
Only the JREFers know about the loopholes :)

You have obviously never taken a contract law class.

Hello all. Any suggestions on when to schedule my flight back home? I want to see this test, but also don't want to be rushed afterward, nor do I want to have several hours of dead time?? Please PM me if you could.

I don't need to take a class to see there's never been one printed up :) NEVER!!!!!
Please show me it's existence or put your tail where it belongs.

The MDC is an offer. It has been communicated here:
http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/1m-challenge/challenge-application.html

It becomes a contract when you communicate your acceptance by submitting your application and agreeing on a protocol.

In sum:
Offer = Million Dollar Challenge
Acceptance = Properly submitted application
Consideration = $1,000,000 US

Voila. Contract. Pretty basic common law stuff.

So because there are multiple steps involved then it's not a real test? Professor I can see where your logic has gone awry.

Anyway in one way you're correct. They aren't actually risking the money simply because nobody can actually do any of this nonsense.

Yeesh. Have you seen all the TV challenges lately for things like Talent Shows, Dancing, and Idol??? Those people have to try out many many times and only ONE of them wins in the end! Only twenty people get on "So you think you can dance", and they have to tryout once in their city, many times in Vegas, and only one out of the final twenty actually gets to win.

I guess having to prove yourself is too much for people like The Professor. He would want to try out once for "America's Got Talent" and then win immediately!

Sorry, but you have to prove you're worthy of the finals first. Why waste time on someone who has NO talent? It would be nice if even 10 people remained standing to try out for the million in the big attempt, but getting one person who has any kind of talent for the supernatural is proving futile.

Ho hum.

Count me in anyways. My plane doesn't leave until the evening.

First of all, a verbal contract can be binding, so contracts in do not necessarily have to be printed up--that's why I mentioned the class thing. Anyhow, just because you personally don't see a contract is not evidence that it doesn't exist.

So, apply for the challenge, agree to a protocol...etc.... and you would have a binding contract.

I think she will turn up. I do not remember any test where the applicant did not turn up for the MDC.

I also changed the tags in this thread to be the same as the other threads.

At TAM 5.5, there was supposed to be a MDC test...the applicant didn't show up. I do not know if the applicant subsequently took the test.

What was the applicants name? Seems there was a problem at DragonCon with no one showing up and it being advertised too. But no one had a real name.

Bottom line ...

It's not a Million Dollar Test if the million is not at stake ... It's a Come On ...

The advertising gives the general public the idea that a million dollars is really at stake at TAM .... However, that's just not true!
