Tangentially... the first Microsoft product I ever purchased was Xenix. Circa 1980s.
Mine was SCO Xenix - all part and parcel of the MS/IBM mishmash - would have been about 1986 I think.

I actually did a study on the advantages of IBM Token Ring using an IBM PC with MS Xenix installed. So many technologies lost and forgotten.

I remember when I was working in an SAP project. The first stage they put on a mainframe. Cost a fortune but it worked.
The second stage they put on HP servers with HP UNIX.
What a contrast.
UNIX was flaky as hell and the security was a joke compared to MVS.

I was one of the 4 programmers in a small manufacturing company. We did our product app coding (C, Ratfor, Assy) on 4 RS-232 terminals hooked to an IBM XT with MS Xenix. Used it to keep track of source code. SCCS, IIRC.
