Lewinsky, Clinton, Redux

I remember feeling bad for Monica who seemed just a fun loving young girl, and always thought Linda Tripp, 24 years her senior, was the busybody villain in all this, but she came out smelling like a rose.

Tripp sued the Department of Defense and the Justice Department for releasing information from her security file and employment file to the news media in violation of the Privacy Act of 1974. On November 3, 2003, Tripp reached a settlement with the federal government.[12] The settlement included a one-time payment of more than $595,000, a retroactive promotion, and retroactive pay at the highest salary for 1998, 1999, and 2000. She also received a pension and was cleared to work for the federal government again. Her rights to remain part of a class action lawsuit against the government were also preserved.

What is the point of her popping up ten years later to say anything about this? It just seems a little too much of a coinky dink that she's showing up now. Personally, I don't want a Clinton/Monica replay in the next election season.

Primarily money, I imagine, followed by...I don't know. Attention? A misguided desire to tell her side of the story? Job offers? Beats me. If Lewinsky is trying to sideline Hillary's campaign, I can't see how she'll have much success. A few titters here and there, and the campaign machine will grind on. Those who want to vote for Hillary will still vote for Hillary.

Me neither, but the media would have probably dragged it up anyway, with a mention/recap in every bloody article, interview, talking head monologue, etc.

Sorry, it wasn't intended that way. Just meant it's been the media who have kept shoving Lewinsky and the old scandal to the surface. Up to now, she's been pretty quiet. No offense was intended. :blush:

I would think the point of her popping up now (as Desert Gal said) is money or attention.
Unless it is a great right wing conspiracy.

Yeah, my comment was actually the cheap shot. I need to pay more attention to the comment in my signature. We're good.

I think the media has been horrible to Monica. The lying weasel that slunk away was Linda Tripp. I was older than Monica but I remembered being an impressionable young woman, who loved the attention I got from executives at one of my jobs. Being that close to the president of the US mist been a thrilling thing. I was disgusted that the whole sordid business played out over months and months. Monica's a HO! Look at the HO! No, she was a young woman swept up in one of the most ridiculous "scandals" ever. She was used and then abused by people she trusted.
