LCFC: $20 million.

DA: We need $20 million to finish the movie.

Studio Exec: What could you possibly need that much money for?

DA: We want Charlie Sheen to narrate it.

SE: The guy from "2 1/2 Men?" He wants $20 million to narrate a documentary?

DA: But he's also the son of a former President.

SE: He was a fictional President.

DA: No, JFK was real."

SE: Are you that dumb? JFK is dead. Martin Sheen played him in a movie.

DA: That's what they want you to think.

SE: Get out of my office.

DA: Can I expect to hear from you?

SE: Don't call us, we'll never call you.
later that day...
DA: [on his blog] We're in negotiations with a major studio.

Thing is, if I was a producer investing even $1million, I'd make him entirely re-work the documentary so that it was about the "Truth Movement" rather than advancing anything it says. I'd tell Dylan that he'd have to spin his own story as "my journey into the heart of the Truth Movement" and I'd get him to dump Bermas and probably Rowe as well. I wouldn't make him speak out against the movement but I'd insist on his appearing non-commital and as neutral as possible. Actually, I'd probably make him say something like: "For a long time I was a part of this movement, now I'm not so sure and so I'm withdrawing from it to tell its story. I still have an open mind, though, I hope you do. Consider the things the people in this documentary are saying and make your own minds up. These are questions that deserve thinking about."

If he did that, then the documentary isn't making any allegations and so the producers would be protected from lawsuits.

Anybody want to take a guess as to whether Avery would change his film like this for a paycheck and the chance of a Hollywood break?

Paranoid fringe culture can only take him so far...

Supporting evidence: Dylan's "we were just kids, there are lots of mistakes in Loose Change" statement in the Hardfire debate.

I like that line of thought, maccy.

I was thinking something a bit similar when I started this thread:
"How Dylan Avery Could Become A Decent Film-maker"
http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69883

I'm going to quote your post into that thread as it follows on nicely.

Dylan's also made reference to having 70 odd prints of the film for the UK alone, which is an incredibly high number.

And his advertising budget would be twice that of Farhenheit 9/11

Hmmm film made by a loud boorish, but incredibly popular author and filmaker.

V.

Film made by a talentless teenager, which breaches any number of fair use, principles.

You sure he didn't mean they'd printed 70 odd tickets?

Actually, I think there's a market for this kind of junk and we shouldn't assume it's never going to get a showing. I can easily imagine some suit believing he can translate download figures into cash. And what the hell, let them do it.

If somebody spends $20M, he's expecting to get back at least $22M, probably hoping for more like $40M. To get that return they could need grosses near $100M (the theatres take most of the gross). And don't forget how movie execs love to boast about their grosses. No more hiding behind coy estimates of their cashflow. He's going to be the guy who made millions off 9/11 - probably more than the 'suspicious' 9/10 airline investors did. He's going to be the guy on the chatshows, explaining why he's pocketed more cash that NIST and the 9/11 Commsion put together, yet can't muster an investigation more elaborate than philosophers, mad scientists, and some burger-flippers on the internet. He going to have to explain how the mass media is covering up the truth while simultaneously publicising his movie. And he's going to have to explain to the 75% who aren't 'retards', why it's cool to lie about 9/11.

I say give them all their spotlight. Put them all in front of the press scrutinity and the photographers, and put the pressure of millions of dollars on those already fractured relationships. Watch the entire truth movement turn nasty when they realise "somebody" paid Dylan & Co. some serious cash & benefits to produce an easily discredited pile of crap.

And who cares if they get rich? It doesn't come out of my pay, and if anybody deserves to get millions of unearned dollars right when they're still curious about sex and drugs its those guys.

Go for it Dylan. Give it your best shot - your most thoroughly researched, mostly highly funded, most meticulously edited, shot. Coz if Bush doesn't hang after your movie shows, then you've lost.

Love, Shrinks.
