Larry Nassar gets 175 years.....

It doesn't change the accuracy of the post. The US is full of people who would express approval of treating prisoners badly in every possible way.

True, but every time such a post comes up, it should not be assumed the poster is American. That's a little troubling in its own way

I don't have the time to read the last 6 pages in the thread, so forgive me if someone already said this:

I'm surprised there wasn't one health care worker, be it a nurse or a medical assistant that didn't have the experience or courage to speak up, it is not acceptable medical practice for male doctors to do any kind of intimate exam on a female patient without another female in the room.

Any women in this forum who have had male doctors do pap smears or pelvic exams should have had a female assistant in the room. IIRC, even my OBGYN had a female assistant in the room during pregnancy pelvic exams.

Someone didn't have experience or didn't speak up about that procedure, regardless of the girls reporting and not being believed.

It's unfortunate. We need to do a better job training medical assistants and educating nurses.

For certain meanings of "treating" and "badly"

I do not consider keeping a convicted 1st degree murderer or a serial child molester behind bars for the whole of the remainder of their life to be treating them badly... at least, nowhere near as badly as they treated their victims.

Do you believe Larry Nasser has been treated badly?

This has been a standard practice for many, many years now. Whenever either of my daughters were examined by our doctor, there was always a female nurse right there in the examination room with her... always.

If this is not happening in sports medicine right now, I would want to know why, and like you, I cannot understand how Michigan State, USAG or USOC could ever have allowed examinations of these young girls by a male doctor without a female observer present.

.....

This guy apparently functioned as a kind of trainer and physical therapist more than a medical doctor. He told his victims that his "treatments" were for their muscle pain, sprains etc., and not only was he often not alone with the girls, sometimes their own parents were in the room, and the coaches and trainers took his word over the girls'. This guy was a very crafty predator.

What's really astonishing is that he had such exclusive access for close to 30 years. It seems like the management would want other doctors involved, if for no other reason than in case their main guy quits or gets hit by a bus.

That's a very dishonest debating technique you have there... snip out the bit I'm talking about and substitute your own BS
I'll tell you what: You ask me a question I haven't already answered in this thread, and I'll be happy to answer it. Otherwise, this is a pot/kettle situation.

For starters, how about the question you snipped out in the post you quoted and replied to? (post 344 in case you have forgotten)

IOW, the bloody system failed these girls, just like Sandusky, the whole system of scumbags looked the other way.

That question is answered in more than one post I've made in this thread. It's not good form to play games and then cry foul when someone joins you.

You have made 22 posts in this thread; #4, #10, #14, #29, #35, #38, #44, #51, #69, #74, #95, #103, #109, #115, #120, #122, #284, #294, #341, #347, #349 and #352

None of them answer the question "Do you believe Larry Nasser has been treated badly? "

And The head of Atheletics at Michigan State resigns.....

It's when the s--t hit the fan at US Gymnastics that it's going to get really interesting....

Oh, I think the USAG board will resign to try to get it to pass over.

But my question is more about Bela and Marta Karoli. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they are up to their necks in it, and not only knew about it, but were actively covering it up.

Marta Karoli had so much power all those years, and if it's found out that she was covering it up, that's going to get ugly. Bela is well known to have been very verbally abusive, if it turns out that there was a sexual abuse coverup going on, I can see them going to jail.

I heard a rumor that they have left the country. Could just be business as normal, or it could be something else.

Trying to get a little back toward the topic, the USOC has demanded all of the board of USA Gymnastics resign immediately. Who appoints the new board when there isn't one?

From your own link:

Includes vaginal, anal or oral intercourse or putting a finger or other object into another person’s anal or genital opening.

A finger in a child's anus is disgusting, but it isn't rape.

I am just at a loss for words. I can't even imagine the logical failure it would take to not know that rape includes inserting a digit into the anus.

The poster you are criticizing is from New Zealand

Well then I'd rephrase myself so that it's clear i was criticizing people who hold such views rather than the poster specifically.

When it comes to notorious and particularly vilified criminals, the horribleness of their crimes doesn't make it any less important to defend them against mistreatment. If anything it becomes more important to defend them against violent thugs looking for an "acceptable" outlet for their frustration as well as mob lynchings, be they other prisoners or prison warders.

In Sweden a notorious serial rapist, who lives in my province, was released recently and he ended up being assaulted by a group of men, although not too severely. Thankfully most people seem to have a "live-and-let-live" attitude. The last thing society needs is vigilantes.

Likewise

Dictionary.com
Rape:
unlawful sexual intercourse or any other sexual penetration of the vagina, anus, or mouth of another person, with or without force, by a sex organ, other body part, or foreign object, without the consent of the victim.

Wikipedia
Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration carried out against a person without that person's consent. The act may be carried out by physical force, coercion, abuse of authority, or against a person who is incapable of giving valid consent, such as one who is unconscious, incapacitated, has an intellectual disability or is below the legal age of consent.[1][2][3] The term rape is sometimes used interchangeably with the term sexual assault.[4]

US Federal Law definition
Rape in the United States is defined by the Department of Justice as "Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim."

Sticking a finger in a childs anus IS rape, by definition
