Korey Rowe arrested for desertion

You all will have to forgive me here, but my knowledge of the UCMJ is limited to what I learned from JAG (a show only slightly more reality based than Shrek).

Young Mr. Rowe has deserted in a time of war. He can face the firing squad for this, can't he?

/fingerscrossed

I think desertion in peacetime is very bad.

Desertion during wartime, declared or not is very very bad. But still death penalties are unlikely.

Desertion in the face of the enemy is real bad. Even so, only Slovik has ever been executed in the US Army and that was back in 1945. I seriously doubt that Rowe's desertion, which is more of a 'failure to appear for duty' than anything else, is going to even come close to that.

I think he needs to be held accountable for any desertion. I'm not making a judgment of guilt. I do, however, find the posts over at SLC somewhat troubling. Roxdog takes the cake with his "Desertion is not a crime" stance.

Since Dylan has made the claim that
And, as always, JREF is running rampant with insults and immaturity.
let me address this to him.

Dylan, you may has missed this, or maybe you overlooked it, or both, but a while back I made the statement of how much I respected Korey because, like me, he was a vet. Yes, Dylan, I, the same guy you accused of "not doing anything with his life" on your little radio show, was serving his country before you were even in high school. I guess that takes me out of your statement
These people can pick on Korey all they want, but unless any of them had the courage to pick up a gun and go overseas, they don't have a leg to stand on.

Been there, done that. 3 times, in fact. So technically YOU don't have a leg to stand on telling me I cannot question the integrity of your friend. Did I respect Korey? Absolutely. Did it cease when he was picked up for desertion? Yes. Point out to me all the immaturity in my actions. Show me how insulting it is to no longer look up to someone who ran away from an obligation.

I don't expect a reply from you, Dylan, because we are all well versed in what you do in the face of confrontation.

It doesn't matter if he ran away from battle, or failed to report. He signed an enlistment contract, and failed to fulfill its obligations. As such, he should be punished to the full extent of the UCMJ.

Nothing worse than a low-life sniveling deserter. He makes it harder on his shipmates (or whatever term you want to substitute). They have to stand the watches, do the duties that he would have done, plus the ones they normally would have to do. Usually it's just because they're too immature to face the reality of military life, and don't give a rat's ass about anyone or anything but themselves.

They're scum. Plain and simple.

ETA: EMC(SS) James B. Armstrong, USN. Just so you know where I'm coming from.

Sure, but I'm not gonna hope that someone dies because his buddies had to do some more KP.

Prosecute him, toss him in the clink, but hoping that they kill him?

I agree, I don't want him killed either. He's not in any danger of that, anyway. I don't believe they've used the death penalty part of the UCMJ since WWII.
But calling this loser a "hero"? That sticks in my craw, big time! He needs a "time out" in Ft. Leavenworth, as well as a Bad Conduct discharge.

Maybe we should start a list of those of us here who have military service. Something along the lines of the list your credentials thread.

OS2 Mark Farrington, USN 1991-1999

Both my Grandfathers served in WWII .....my Father served in Vietnam and I served in Panama, the first Gulf War, Somalia and Bosnia.

And here I am calling him a disgrace to everyone that has worn the uniform. Here is a headline....you don't get college money for free. And when you are taught BRM in the 2-3 week of basic, there is a reason you need to learn to fire a weapon......

And besides, just like you, everyone that hasn't served has freedom of speech and opinion. If they want to voice their opinon of the PoS then it's their right to.

Sgt. Brian Gordon - US Army 1988-1996 (* note, I was SSgt. Brian Gordon but there was that incident with the CSM's daughter. But that's another thread)

Here is Korey Rowe talking about his frustration with the US wars and hatred against the domestic criminals.

BTW, he was joined the Army on August, 2001 when approached by a recruiter. He got interested, didn't know what he was doing, didn't know what the infantry was when he signed up for it, but he liked the golf course on the introduction video.

My grandfathers fought in WWII and in the winter war against Russia. I served in the anti-aircraft unit of the Finnish military in 1996-1997.

Speaking of the Loose Change juveniles vs. the Cub Scouts, here is the video. Loosers are on the left, Scouts on the right:

If only thousands of soldiers would have the guts Korey has.

So, now, cowardice is the new courage? Man, what happened to the concepts of logic and common sense. Do these geniuses know what would happen if the U.S. had no military?

In your opinion, do you think he was targeted?

In my opinion this has nothing to do with his Loose Change project. It is a deserter captured like any other. No one targeted him because of his producer role.
