July US Presidential Strawpoll

Unbelievable that anyone of any intelligence would vote for further degradation of their civil liberties and for keeping a braindead in office. Just unbelievable.

I am trying to keep an open mind and not get involved with rhetoric.

Can you tell me, precisely, how my civil liberties have been altered since Bush took office. No arm waving, specifics.

As an aside, he may or may not be braindead. I really don't know, I only know what the media puts out. If I meet him one day I'll report back.

I have two points here. Firstly, I personally actually like Kerry although I dislike Bush more and I might have prefered a different candidate from the democratic party, but if my first choice isn't on the ballot you have to pick from those that are, therefore Kerry. This is a similar choice to the fact that I like Pepsi, but I'm on a Coke campus, so I'll drink Coke. Not that I don't like Coke, I do very much, I just would have prefered Pepsi. Does that make any sense?
Secondly, for those who aren't great fans of Kerry, but will vote for him because he's not Bush, I still think that's a valid thing to do. You don't talk about remodelling when your house is on fire. Would you take four more years of Bush just so you can vote on principle for a third party?

You're not the kindf of person I am speaking of. You stated that you like Kerry. fine. Go vote for him. it is all of the people that are saying 'I hate both of them, but so-n-so isn't 'quite' as bad'. THOSE people get zero respect for me.

See the faith-based-initiatives and the Patriot Act.

It is not clear that the "faith based initiatives" are much different from what went on during other administrations, except for a name change. How is what Bush is doing different and more onerous?

These are the kind of arm waving, preaching to the choir, complaints that I have a problem with.

The Patriot Act.

I agree, to some extent, but...

Are you now going to argue that Gore or Kerry would not have passed a similar, or far worse, Act in reaction to 9-11?

They both voted for it, no? Now they are against it. Is that because it took them 3 years to read it or because they need a cynical point of difference?

Ay, there's the rub. Personally, I don't think so, which is why I tend to snicker when people talk about the "lesser evil." The "lesser" part seems to be more wishful thinking with a tad of myopia than anything else.

Reminds me of back in 96, when TWA 800 exploded. Immediately Congress rushed to pass "anti-terrorist" legislation, which was promptly signed by Bill "there is no fancy way to say that I have sinned" Clinton. Of course, the explosion wasn't a terrorist incident, but hey, why let rational thought interfere with expanded police powers?

Good grief! Ed-God, I thought you were just a cynical I've-done-my-part-and-got rich-doing-it American.

It now appears that you have no understanding beyond that.

Sad.

Uh oh, now we've disappointed the Danes. Someone get Washington on the phone, I don't want this to turn into a big, ugly international incident.

See, this is what happens when no one courts the Danish vote.

As usual, nothing of relevance to impart.

*Yawn*

I'm sorry, but there is just NO APPRECIABLE DIFFERENCE between Bush and Kerry. At least with Nader, you have quite a few differences of opinion with the Big Two. But Michael Badnarik is the ONLY candidate who has displayed an understanding of what the Constitution even says, much less how important it is to end the Income Tax and get the government out of our lives.

Indeed. Unfortunately, ignorance seems to be prevalent among the US population.

US Citizen (Virginia)...for Bush...and against Eurotrash arrogance. How does it feel to be irrelevant DD?
