Julia Gillard - liar

LOL.
No whoosh here mate. I think the whoosh - sooo often the case btw - is totally yours. :)

Let others decide. Your hatred of Gillard can't even allow you to acknowledge a really humorous video by her. Something Abbott would be entirely incapable of doing.

Any comments of earlier youtubes of Abbott barely controlling his desire to smash interviewers?

As days go by, Abbott's days are numbered.

The Gillard government is preparing to dump its commitment to a budget surplus if economic growth slips below its long-term average in the current quarter.

The writing is already on the wall that the surplus will not be achieved, assuming same, that would make her 'no ifs, no buts' promise of a surplus a BIG FAT LIE.

Maybe we are just used to her saying anything to get her out of a jam.
I guess we will soon be hearing the 'ifs' and the 'buts' we were promised we wouldn't hear.

I am tempted to write "worst PM ever", but I won't because that might somehow be reported as 'off topic' by those thin of skin. ;)

And it wasn't particularly politically clever of Abbott to throw a hospital ball to J. Bishop re: AWU. Two for the price of one!

So? If this opinion poll is to be believed most people won't care. And the article you posted suggests that economists don't really care if Australia returns to surplus either. But then what do all those people know? Clearly this surplus is more important than anything, regardless of how not important it is to a majority of Australians.

And if my point was that returning to surplus was a bad thing I would have said so. Clearly she thought it was a bad thing staying in deficit, or she wouldn't have made the commitment.

Gillard made a 'no ifs, no buts' promise a few years ago when she was being criticised for massive overspending and waste. She told the lie to shut them up then - and it pretty much worked.

The point is the lie, not the policy - this thread is about her lies, not her policies. That said, her inability to return the budget to surplus reveals she does not have the control of the economy she would like us all to believe. Interest rates are at emergency levels and her office says this is a good thing - truly boggling.

It's a default position for her to lie, why one would believe a single word that comes out of her mouth is beyond me.

Gillard did not lie about the Carbon Tax, you agree with that, or do YOU want to lie now.
She did not lie about going into a surplus. At the time 2 years ago a surplus looked on the cards. Things change and people do not lie when good advice from Treasury is given.
So what lies has she made?
AWU scandal?
Carbon Tax, no.
Budget surplus, no.
Which lies?

Look harder.

Consider this, if one makes a promise and does not keep it, is it a lie?
If one makes a promise to avoid further scrutiny or to deflect attention, is it a lie?
If one knowingly makes a promise one is not 100% certain they cannot keep, is it a lie?

I reckon she ticks a few boxes here too:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Lie

1. A false statement deliberately presented as being true; a falsehood.
2. Something meant to deceive or give a wrong impression.
v. lied, ly·ing (lng), lies
v.intr.
1. To present false information with the intention of deceiving.
2. To convey a false image or impression: Appearances often lie.
v.tr.
To cause to be in a specific condition or affect in a specific way by telling falsehoods: You have lied yourself into trouble.
Idiom:
lie through one's teeth
To lie outrageously or brazenly.

Er, no. Responsible government is changing positions as circumstances demand. Please name one PM who has never done this.

See, this is why so many people get exasperated with this and similar threads. Gillard changes position, and you immediately pop up saying "liar, liar". The rest say "der, politics".

She's not a liar, she's a politician. Get it?

Oh right, I forgot that this thread wasn't about actual discussion, but was for posters to just complain about the PM.

No.
You agreed with me previously.
So are you now a liar.

You are talking about the carbon tax, right? I'm not. I have not moved my opinion on that which is that I will (generously) concede she was not technically lying. I would not do this for some of her other... er ... indiscretions.

My point here is around returning the budget to surplus. She made (yet another) promise she couldn't keep. She made this promise whilst under pressure for spending what many considered to be reckless to deflect said pressure. She made this promise 'no ifs, no buts' (quote unquote). Now we will see the ifs and buts come out. If she couldn't keep it or guarantee it she should not have said it.

Given her previous drental and mouth issues she should have been more careful (at best), at worst she told a big fat lie. I am going the latter, clearly you aren't. It bothers me not one jot that your opinion differs.
