Julia Gillard - liar

I see you've all caught the abbottabbottabbott bug too.

Didn't she promise that business would get tax cuts?

Pffooofff! Gone, just like her surplus.

Hopeless.

I see. So "they did it first" is now a valid excuse. ;)

No just pointing out the pot calling the kettle black. Unlike you I am fairly certain every Australian Prime Minister has lied at some point during their time in office. Unlike you I dont seem to need to distinguish that fact by what political ideology or what they had or didn't have hanging between their legs

I'm old enough to remember the David Frost interviews with MacMahon and Whitlam in 1972 before the election. Frost, then the hottest interviewer on the planet asked each interviewee the same questions one of which was whether they would ever lie.

MacMahon: "Never!" [I googled this and, according to reliable accounts, MacMahon elucidated:] "I have never, ever told a lie".

Whitlam: [Crisply] Yes. [Dramatic pause] For instance, in matters of national security the Prime Minister would have a duty to lie.

He was a master.

I realize that political discussion by its nature tends toward the devisive, but that does not excuse the continued bickering that has been witnessed in this thread, and the others of its ilk. Any further bickering will be met with increasing levels of moderator action, including infractions, suspensions and banishment.

Is that clear?

Now, keep it on topic.
Keep it civil.
The topic is NOT the other posters, no matter how much they piss you off.

Is THAT clear?

Yes, sir, kmortis, sir. I'm glad you're looking out for us, sir, and keeping everything peaceful and tranquil in your own uniquely selective way. Thank you, sir.

Meanwhile McKew is promoting her book that calls Gillard's honesty and integrity into question. Like we even needed more confirmation. :)

Kevin Rudd has called on Labor MPs associated with the June 2010 leadership change to be honest about what happened, as he stands by his own version of events, in which he argues he was stunned by the move to Julia Gillard.

With Parliament resuming today, debate over Mr Rudd's ousting from the top job has been stoked anew by the book Tales From the Political Trenches by former journalist and Labor MP Maxine McKew.

Sounds like he is saying someone is a liar. Can anyone guess who? And no, Tony Abbott is not it. :)

Gillard again refuses to confirm a budget surplus.
This is for the second day running. Rather, she (and her attack dogs) simply attack the credentials of the opposition rather than explain themselves.

So when she promised us a "no ifs, no buts" budget surplus (and oh so many times, btw), it was an even bigger promise than the carbon tax, pokies, fixing the boats etc; in other words probably her biggest, fattest lie.

Worst PM ever and a world class liar to boot.

You will see a lot of "creative accounting" used to demonstrate a budget "surplus".

At least this government is committed to the reduction of government debt (although whether this turns out to be a Reaganesque pie in the sky is another matter). Paul Keating tended to dismiss critics of government deficit budgets as "idiots" who didn't realize that government debt is "different" to private debt.

It sounds a lot like they won't get there at all, even with the smoke and mirrors tricks of Swannie and his band of incompetents.

To be honest I feel desperately sorry for Penny Wong who I think is one of the best ministers (if not the best) Labor has got - she has to swallow all the swill that is served up and pretend she goes along with it: gay marriage, senate seats, financial trickery, misogynistic hypocrisy etc etc. She is smarter and better than that and deserves better too.
