Speaking of liars, Tony Abbott is on TV again.
Zing!
Well, maybe not outright lies, but he's making up for it with lies of omission and fallacies. Oh no, wait, that was a lie.
ETA: Oh, right, I knew there was a reason I opened this thread.
The Exclusive on the front page of the Weekend Australian is quite relevant to this thread (paywalled
here, title "Revealed: Julia Gillard lost her job after law firm's secret investigation").
The exclusive appears to be entirely a witness account; although the existence of a "recorded and transcribed" interview is mentioned it's not clear whether The Australian had access to this directly.
Some other information is also lacking, though I'm sure A.A. Alfie will disagree - there is no evidence presented to show that Gillard committed a crime. There is also no evidence presented to show that Gillard's claims of innocence are false or lies. The closest it comes is the journalist reporting a man's statement mentioning an interview in which Gillard denied but did not rule out unknowingly receiving funds that may or may not have been acquired illegally (although an "exhaustive" police probe, with detectives wanting to charge the two men they suspected, never led to any prosecutions), and produced evidence to show that she had not directly used any such money to renovate her property. (For good measure, she also contradicts Pickering's claims that Bernard Murphy was involved with the creation of the account.)
Also (emphasis mine, but statement by the exclusive witness):
"As for the florid allegations suggesting a cover-up by Slater & Gordon made in some radio interviews and online media, they are utterly absurd."
Heh.
Now for an apology. There were parts of this that I didn't think were true and hadn't bothered to investigate at all, and even with the "exhaustive" police probe that never led anywhere I would no longer be surprised if Wilson was guilty. On the other hand, I have still failed to see any reason that Gillard was complicit, let alone benefited from it, let alone was aware of it.
A.A. Alfie, since I still don't know, would you care to suggest what crime(s) you think/know Gillard committed? You did call her a crook, and you do have a source, which seems excessive if you think she just committed an error of judgement in trusting a man who clearly fooled a lot of other people. If you named a crime, is there evidence implicating her which is available to you but not the general public? If it is available to the general public, would you mind pointing it out?
