I was sure I'd seen a thread on this earlier, but can't seem to find it using the search function. Anyway, the estimable Dr. will have Mr. Edwards on today, with the subject being "can talking to the dead be good for you?"

Now, in the best of all possible worlds, Oz would expose Edwards for the fraudulent charlatan he is, and explain how "talking to the dead" might just conceivably be used as a clinical tool by a mental-health professional....With the caveat that the patient understands what's going on...
Somehow I doubt this will be the tenor of the show.......

This ought to be good.

Dr. Oz Says Psychic John Edward "Changed My Life"
Mar 14, 2011

TV Guide Magazine: And you now consider what Edward does to be a legit form of grief therapy?
Oz: I can see how it could help people who are dealing with grief, and how it might bring closure to relationships, and help make people more comfortable with the idea of death. We've spoken with the American Psychological Association who say they don't know if this works or not. But if it helps with grief, why not? I'm open to the idea.

TV Guide Magazine: What specifically about Edward did you find so believable?
Oz: That's the exact word — he's specific. (...)

Why not bother to ask if talking to the dead has any possible harm to offer on the other hand? Perverting the only thing we have left of our loved ones, our memories.

Per Michael Shermer (A):

Q: Why can't you let this go, What does it matter to you if he can realy talk/see the dead. As a person who has lost her parents and too many other family members to mention, HE GIVES US HOPE, AND SOME CLOSURE. I don't care realy if it is true.. ALL I care about is that he/they John Edward, James Van Praagh and Sylvia Browne all give us a hope that we will see our long lost loved ones again. Also how can them making people feel so good about such a huge lost in theier lives, be so wrong ??? Do you know of any ways to help the pain of a lost loved one??? — Pamela Nicholson

A: Yes, grief counselors. These are trained professionals who deal in loss, death and grief. They tell me that the reason the psychics are harmful is that pretending that one's lost loved one is not really gone keeps one in a state of denial, making it impossible to ever work through the grieving process.

you're actually defending Oz?

I would give everything i own to be able to sit down and explain to Dr Oz exactly how much he sucks and in what ways. PRoviding he couldn't leave the room until we reached an understanding.

I guarantee he would not understand a word of it; so much smoke has been blown up his anal duct that he's incapable.

And that does seem to be his problem. He has a very " People tell me i am right." vibe to him. Which is obvious when he does get caught on something.

My favorite moment, was when he was promoting turnip juice to combat body odor. Someone made the statement that smelling like a turnip would not be much better than smelling of b.o. and he was pretty blindsided, finally pretending as if it was a joke of some form, admitting this obvious fault, and moving on as quickly as he could.

But as a more , on my hypothetical response.

I have no doubts he wouldn't, i simply think that i could last longer without food than he could being a much smaller guy.

I'd like to take him to fast food joints and make him eat stuff.

Psi Cop, I mean, CSICOP published a riveting article entitled "Swedenborg and Dr. Oz." Apparently his wife introduced him to trance channeling AND reiki, what a jewel. Anyway, thanks to Swendenborgs channeling and OBEs I was fascinated to learn that, "The human inhabitants of Mercury are slimmer than earthlings. Their women have smaller faces. Their clothes are tight fitting. In spite of Mercury’s nearness to the sun, its atmosphere shields the planet from the sun’s heat, producing a climate “not too hot or too cold.” Wow, I can't wait to go there.

If you just cannot wait to see the episode "Dr. Oz Fans" has posted a detailed summary

The smug, smarmy Dr. Oz makes my blood boil. Oh well he's destined for shame in the books of history...

At least it promises to be more interesting than the show when he demonstrated how to pop pimples.

Sigh. While this (deservedly) isn't worth much, I can assure you that even the Swedenborgians (New Church) think the stuff about every planet being inhabited is embarassing. I've got some clergy in my family, maybe I'll pin them down on an official position some time.

Ee gads! Wow it would be interesting to view their list non-embarrassing list of "miracles" he performed that justify their belief in him. There are a lot of stories, I'm not sure how you could confirm the truthiness of any of them through.

I love Orac! Everyone interested in health will love his blog. He's the best.

"When faith healing isn't woo enough for Dr. Oz"

Yeah, but she's not talking to him. Not that it's a change from when she was alive.
