Joe the Plumber jumps the shark

Joe should be Sarah palin's running mate if the GOP is stupid enough to put her up on the ticket in 2012. Good intellectual (excuse me for a moment while I try to stop laughing at that oxymoron) match.

You don't say dumb crap in front of a camera and whine about that being offered as your public image for the rest of your life in the public eye.

There slogan would be...

"Palin-Plumber 2012, when you want the dumbest people in the room to lead the free world"

This far right wing attitude of "every man for himself, sing or swim, survival of the fittest", that cringes as the very idea of govt helping out the less fortunate, or GOD FORBID, a check for a few hundred dollars, go to someone who didn't pay income tax, really seems, anti-christian in nature.

Love thy neighbour, due onto others as you would....

Or is suppose to be up to the individual whether he or she decides to give a handout to the less fortunate or not? Not governments??

You have just demonstrated a fundamental misunderstanding about how the right feels on such things, completely.

It's not "survival of the fittest" at all. It's the idea that Government is too big and over-reaching, and some things are better handled in the private sector and by people, not goverment. It's especially funny that you say it's "anti-christian" in this regard, considering the massive numbers of Churchs and religious groups that do a tremendous amount of help for the poor and homeless. Feeding and clothing people, and much more. And that is the level at where Conservatives feel such stuff is appropriate.

It's not that it's not a great and compassionate idea for Government to help people. It's that we already have Government that is too far above our ability to fund and support, and it can only get worse in the future. We aren't far from massive numbers of baby boomers going on to Social Security. Who the hell is going to pay for that?

Again, I think alot of these idea are great from an idealisitc point of view. It's a matter of practicality and actually accomplishing them. Remember how much of a disaster welfare was before it was reformed. This is the biggest thing the Right (and conservatives) have a problem with. Is throwing away money to make people completely dependant on the goverment rather than learn to take care of themselves. And most of us don't even believe in a "tough love" approach, and are willing (quite) to help people in need. But we want to see the right kind of help. And we want to see Goverment more "reigned in" on the things they are involved in because it's too large and costly for us to support.

We are not far from a disaster in this regard, with our huge debt, and massive spending and new programs left and right. Many of the things we want to do are noble, but are being done too quickly and growing too quickly for what we can support and afford.

Fiscal responsibility is the key. Your idea that it's just about throwing people to the wolves is a ridiculous over-simplifiaction.

I'd hate to have my background investigated and to become an object of ridicule just for asking a politician a question.

That happened to Joe even before he started milking his fame and being used by the McCain campaign.
That's not how it happened.

In the specific and in the abstract, Joe is a lie. When a candidate for president lies, the press is going to be on it like white on rice.

McCain pried open Joe's ass cheeks (with Joe's eager cooperation), shined a flashlight, and for all practical purposes demanded an inspection.

The tool-baggery gets even more tool baggish.
Plumber Joe: Was it patriotic for Joe Biden to say "take my money and give it to other people? That's patriotism?

Colmes: Well, let me ask, you were on welfare once, was that taking somebodies else's money and giving it to you?

Plumber Joe: Paid into welfare. It something to be used, not to be abused like it often is

I was in graduate school with a guy that spent most of his day with headphones on listing to Rush. He would constantly complain about Klinton's government being on "his back". Guy had three kids in 5 years and his wife did not work. Just like "Joe the toolbox" it was honest taxpaying people like you and me that picked up the tab for his "lifestyle" (mormon).

Joe's Warholian fifteen minutes are over.
Besides, as a symbol of the average American, Joe just got his butt kicked by a 106 year old Black woman from Georgia.
