Sheriff Joe Arpaio should retire and find a job at the local donut shop. I don't know how anyone with half a brain has any respect for this guy, let alone that I cannot understand why anyone with a career in law enforcement stands up for what he is trying to do here! He is nothing but a thug - plain and simple!

On the other hand, I think if someone has been President for four years, we ought to just grant them some kind of citizenship exception.

I do like the idea of outsourcing the Presidency. We could get some sweet candidates -- and cheaper too.
 
We better check Mitt Romney's certificate. His father came from Mexico and he looks like the Hulu alien.
 
The layers that are detected are just OCR software artifacts which are the result of scanning. This is a very good summary of the birther debunking by experts.

It took them 2200 hours/6 months to come up with this nonsense?

George Romney was actually born in Mexico, but eligible to be president by a very old law which was meant to cover this loophole. I wonder how many were shouting for his birth certificate back then?

I just liked to point this out because Romney and Obama are similar in that both had fathers born outside the US yet no one asks for Romney's birth certificate.

Birthers embarrass themselves and others in a variety of ways, but their "arguments" (from what I've seen) concern the birthplace of the president humself and not his father.

Some birthers have claimed that to be a "natural born citizen", both of ones parents have to have been born in the US.

Because he's "tough on crime"! Regardless of what that crime is, or whether you're guilty or not. If you're in his jail, you're guilty enough to be punished for having been arrested.
 
Joe Arpaio is an innovator. A visionary. He's been a pioneer in using undercover detectives on Craiglist in order to name, shame and punish people who are into bestiality. As far as I know, he's the only sheriff in America doing this. Once again he shows that it doesn't matter to him how victimless a crime is, he will do his damned job!

Well clearly Joe has a lot of work to do in his local area.

This would also serve as an example of where our tax dollars are being spent by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department. All things aside, we were amazed by the fact that over 20 fully armed officers were waiting on the scene of the arrest, while many cases of murder, rape, and child abuse go on unresolved.

This is all in retaliation for the Justice department stripping Joe (oh god what an awful image) of his immigration enforcement powers because he is alleged to have been abusing them. Joe is, IMO as a resident of AZ, a very petty and destructive man bent on revenge.

If I recall correctly he said he launched this investigation because 240 residents of Maricopa county asked him to. With a population of nearly 4 million I have to wonder if this is the smallest number of people to receive the benefits of a maricopa county sheriffs department investigation?

AZ would be so nice without maricopa and pinal county.

It's stalled to say the least. I wish it could have been more.

Once the legislature was out of session last year all of our support and funding evaporated into the summer heat. Without the daily reminder of how crazy they were up in Phoenix (via their insane attempts at legislation) people forgot about the idea.

I think things would have been a lot different if the daily show hadn't canned the segment they filmed with us.

When they came back into session this year we got a little momentum but with the giffords' special election and the fall election the political money and support is tied up for the time being. If we could get enough signatures it would pass on the ballot in a heart beat.

I still have my bumper sticker and I still get people asking for them when they meet me so maybe this needs to simmer a bit longer...

not only are there worse people for the job (if we look at his term overall), he gets brownie points with the voters who see him as the only defense against some other possibly worse nuts who would like to rule AZ from afar.

Not that he has actually performed that role, he just likes to be able to claim it

His main opposition comes from the usual nuts on the left, and the barry goldwater/classical liberal types on the right who see him as "a Fed"

He was holding his job when the moderates in the left and right weren't up in arms about his nonsense. Now all he has left are the moderate right...good luck with that
