Jenny McCarthy: Indigo Mom.

Dear Hopp R UK-3

Knowledge of the role-playing game Paranoia is above your security clearence. Please report to the nearest Execution Booth for immideate termination.

Your friend,
The Computer.

Another Commie Mutant Traitor uncovered by The Computer.
God,between this and the Illuimanati Card Game thread in Conspiracy Theories, two of the great time wasters in my College Career have resurfaced.
And I am surprised that no one has done a computer version of Paranoia. One would think it is a natural.
And Remember,The Computer is Your Friend.....

What's interesting is that the Autism Society of America claims 1 in 150 births is affected by autism, yet only 1 in 1,000 students are identified as being autistic. That's why I question the idea that her son is autistic. She's just jumping on whatever bandwagon she needs to in order to explain her child's behavior.

One rarely mentioned fact about autistic children is that 75% of them also have mental retardation. Perhaps this is the most accurate diagnosis of her son?
Where did you get that 75% quote?
Autism is not mental retardation. It is a developmental disorder. That is, the autistic brain develops at a different rate from "normal" brains; hence, many autistic children have lost the worst symptoms of autism by the time they hit their teens. Additionally, the term "autism" covers a very wide spectrum, from people with Aspergers Sydrome (like our own Tobias the Commie) right through to "low functioning" autists who. besides having tremendous difficulty living in normal society may also have mental retardation. Autism can affect anybody, regardless of their mental capabilities; therefore, the percentage of autistic mentally retarded will be much the same as the percentage of autistics in the rest of the population.
Autism is real; if this kid as been diagnosed as autistic, then why question it?

BTW IMHO Indigo Child is just another name for Spoiled Brat.
Sure in a lot of cases, but it's dangerous to label a legit autist / PDD-NOS kid with Indigo and treat him by Indigo standards, which are reluctance to do what's told, accept authority, persevere and wanting instant gratification and all that stuff. Never teaching a "regular" child these skills is bad enough, with a challenged child you're creating problems on top of problems.

And if her son is a fantastic higher being, shouldn't she be praising the vaccine she claims made her son autistic?

You are right; I should have made the exception for kids that have genuine problems.
But the Indigo method of raising kids seems to be,in most cases, a sure fire recipe for raising a obnoxious little brat.
BTW Titus Pullo rules!

I think this blog post sums it up nicely:

http://autismnaturalvariation.blogspot.com/2007/09/jenny-mccarthy-indigo-children-and.html

It also points out the the indigomoms.com website is down with a note: "Indigomoms will not be returning".

Hmm, perhaps she's given up on that idea...

Well, if the Wiki page is accurate that "Nancy Ann Tappe [the founder of the "indigo" concept] estimates that 97 percent of children under ten and 70 percent of those age 15 to 25 are "Indigo,"" then it's no wonder. Who needs a web page for mothers of 97% of children? They're not special any more.

The 75% number came from my textbook on special education. It can also be found here:

There are many other places to find this number.

Since the boy was previously diagnosed as an indigo child , I question that the diagnosis of autism has actually been made by someone qualified to do so.

Oh come on now. "Indigo Children" are sooooooo 2006.

"Autism" is the new "Indigo."

And when you're a washed-up supermodel, you need to be as trendy as possible.

You know, sometimes I really wince at all these stories....

You see, I named my daughter 'Indigo'. What can I say? I don't buy into any of this IndigoChild BS, Indigo wasn't even any of the names we'd pre-selected. I was forced to have a c-section, they shot me up with some funky drugs and when they passed me my baby she had blue-purple feet and hands - Bingo! Indigo! (always liked the colour...)

Am I going to fending off New Agers in the years to come who assume I'm into this nonsense? Arrrrgh!

god, it's crap like this that really makes me hate the word "quantum", part of me wishes Stephen Hawking grew up to be a football star or something ...
You mean instead of a gangsta rap star?

Quantum is defined as energy and physics is the science of energy.

Oh, great. Now they tell me. (Goes to toss diploma in the trash.)

A Bill Hicks Quote-Got to love the people in here. As to this stupid A**wipe and her book. Enough is enough of this stupidity. I work with Autistic adults. The ones that get to me work and have lives and pay bills ect ect ect with out this new age stupidity. It is not curable, but they can live a life. This moron married to Rodney Pete is speaking right now about how her autistic son communicating with her via e-mail. Do I smell the stench of a facilitator here? It is really time for people to grow the hell up. The one thing I heard uttered on this Larry King show was worth saying was don't be affraid of people with autism. They are humans.

The indigo moms website will not be returning, a message tells me. Why is that...

Anyway, the site will be useless for me. I am 25, with a 70 percent chance of being Indigo myself. I was something of a weird kid, so maybe this is the case, lol.

So, give me a site for raising crystal kids.

It's sad actually...

But indigo isn't a shade of purple- it's the colour used to dye blue jeans.

Indigo is simply dark blue.

May I refer you to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigo? Several different shades seem to exist. None on the wiki article seem to be simply dark blue -this is of course entirely subjective, I can accept that other people might not see any purple in some of them. I also recognise that wikipedia is not the be all and end all of knowledge on the subject so please correct me if I'm wrong.

I was going to go for a rebuttal with what colour Newton defined indigo as and getting you to look through charts at the bottom of the page but they have no sources. Plus, fundamentally I agree - if the dye gives a blue-green colour then that is what indigo should be. However, popular culture has it as purple-blue colour. I'd like to point out a part of my post I also think is quite important:

....they shot me up with some funky drugs...

p.s. I like your sig - William Shatner singing Hey! Mr Tambourineman! is one of the funniest musical moments.

Why do these nutcases always feel the need to guide people? Do you think there's something seriously lacking in their lives, and this makes them feel like they're somebody?

(Sir Philip brings the stick of wisdom to bear on Steve..)

Godlike attributes are the china white of narcissistic fixes, the nectar in the inner wasteland of the deeply antisocial, the ambrosia of the humorless and self-loathing, the liberating sense of individuality for unremarkable facsimiles of what other people have made them. Haven't Saturday cartoon shows taught you anything.
