jack smith deposition

while it’s true that jay isn’t the boss of you, again i think some familiarity with the case would give you extremely valuable context as to why tero’s comment you originally quoted isn’t saying what you think it is.

cannon and co trying to bury and then destroy vol 2 of jack smith’s investigation into election fraud, covering the stolen documents, making sure nobody will know its contents.

i’m really curious about what the stolen secret documents have to do with election fraud

cannon blocks smith report on mar a lago documents case, trump doj doesn’t oppose this
What a ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ surprise. The most corrupt administration ever.

i am really curious what relation the election fraud case and the documents case had

a little info about the mar a lago documents

In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Raskin alleged some of the documents, which had been sought by then-special counsel Jack Smith in his now-defunct classified documents case against Trump, were accessible only to six people in the government, and that the documents seemed to be relevant to the then-former president's business interests.

jack smith says department of justice is corrupt

“We have a Department of Justice today that targets people for criminal prosecution simply because the president doesn’t like them,” Mr. Smith said in the hourlong discussion on April 20, according to a video obtained by The New York Times.

Mr. Smith, speaking in the deliberate cadence of a prosecutor delivering a closing argument, cited what he cast as the wholesale erosion of the department’s tradition of independence from the White House. “We have a department that fails to investigate cases because they might uncover facts that are inconvenient narratives the president would like to press,” he said.

I'll never find it again, but I read something a few weeks ago in which a federal judge (formerly a federal prosecutor) dressed down a DOJ attorney in court for a particularly stupid filing. The gist of the admonishment was basically the same as Smith's opinion: in less than a year the Dept. of Justice has been downgraded from a once prestigious legal institution to a mere travesty. Maybe my pessimism is showing but I doubt that the department will regain its former stature in my lifetime, if ever.

trump legal defense of fake electors plot: it was an official act
He can try. Constitutionally and statutorily the President has absolutely no role in running the Presidential election. The state electors vote, the votes are delivered to Congress, and the Vice President in his capacity as President of the Senate presides over the certification of the vote. It can't be an official act if your office can't act that way.

sorry, i just noticed that’s an old article. they got me, i need to check the dates. sometimes i forget to do that

jack smith's first public interview, talks about the investigation, the corruption of the department of justice and his optimism that it can be turned around, trump's threats against him, and the first amendment. doesn't talk about volume 2, the mar a lago documents aspect of his investigation, due to cannon's court order other than to say he stands by it's findings.

jack smith testifies before congress about trump’s efforts to overthrow the government. here’s a sample of the quality of the pushback against those accusations

The exchange between Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri and Jack Smith was remarkable, featuring a U.S. senator publicly suggesting a former federal prosecutor committed perjury with his answers about whether he went to a 2024 basketball game. Smith tried to clear it up by saying he went to see the Iowa Hawkeyes play, not the Atlanta Hawks, and that the game was in Maryland, not Atlanta, but Schmitt was unrepentant about his original accusation.

also a reminder that in addition to jan 6, smith’s investigation included the stolen documents at mar a lago, a case that he is unable to discuss and was buried by “judge” canon

United States citizens paid for those investigations; we should by law be able to see what Smith found. ◊◊◊◊ Cannon.

Graham's nitwit sister weighs in:

Graham: Do you really believe Lindsey was going to destroy evidence that was not even in his possession?

Smith: I believe your brother was a patriotic public servant. He was not a target of our investigation. In fact, he likely would have been a witness in our case. Your brother investigated the claims that Donald Trump was making. He found them to be false.

Graham: I think you were just trying to bully my brother. You should be ashamed of yourself. Shame on you!
