It's all about you (Jack Chick's latest)

What does it NOT explain?

Good point! Satan = Bulimia = All of world's problems. It's all connected!

You used to see those damn tracts all over the place. I don't get around the church too much anymore outside of the occasional wedding. And when my wife says we have to go because I need to meet Aunt So-and-So. Anyway, I haven't seen a Chick Tract in a church in a long time. The last time I saw them being distributed was a couple of loons in sandwich signs outside our local state fair. They were yelling scriptures at passerby, handing out the Anti-Masonic Chick Tract of all things.

And a month later, she became a radical atheist.

Then a month after that, she became a Hindu.

...and so on, and so on...

Meanwhile, her grampa died and went to Hell for lingering on soft-core porn too long while switching channels.

I wish. In real life, it would go like this:

A month later she joined a reclusive fundamentalist sect.

Then a month later she became pregnant for the sect leader.

She´s been continuously pregnant ever since.

OK, the guy with the hat is obviously a Jew, a frequent target of Chick cartoons. The guy standing behind them is probably an atheist, just as a wild guess, seeing Chick seems to hate us.

I have no idea who the two on the right are. The bearded guy looks a bit like Paul Allen (billionaire of Microsoft fame). The other, Jesse Helms, but I wonder who they're supposed to be.

The guy in the back

The guy in the back is obviously Tony Award winner, Harvey Fierstein.

Jack Chick is all 'bout theatre.

Isn't the Bible the final authority of Catholics?

No, not really. As many have pointed out in threads here, the RCC sees the Bible coexisting with the writings of the church fathers and a nebulous entity called "tradition", as interpreted by the Roman Curia (standing council of bishops in Rome), as well as several other bodies, as all coming together to provide church guidance. That makes the church flexible in response to almost any attack; it's why they can attack science in Galileo's time and be in harmony with it today. The pope, touted as the head authority, can't actually do much in the long run without without bureaucracy backing.

I attended Catholic schools for about 14 years of my elementary/high school/undergrad days. The Bible is curiously far in the background, with the exception of the "gospels" and "epistles" (ie, selected readings from the New Testament). Jack Chick's kind of faith hates Catholicism for this; he has a whole page on his site about how he doesn't hate Catholics, but that they'll go to hell if they don't convert to his way of thinking. Not surprisingly, this is the way things were in Europe before the colonists came to America to escape religious persecution, and also not surprisingly, that is the way it was here until well after the nation was founded, which is why Oglethorpe founded Maryland as a catholic colony. Jack Chick is a Bible, KJV only kind of guy.

Baptists regard Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons and New Agers as "cultists", let alone such as paganists, Wiccans or (gasp!) atheists. Likewise, all are going to hell unless they change their ways. Pentecostalists are borderline cases.

It's very disturbing that in this day and age, people still believe that certain illnesses are caused by demonic possession or Satanic influence.
Oh so are you an expert on this subject? Demonic possesion is still very much what we see happening around us in this world. Anyone who is not in Christ is open game for Satan but I think it's liquor and drugs that really give these demons an opening into peoples lives.

I do not even think someone can become a mass murderer unless they are completely evil and taken over by the dark side. Jesus is still setting people free from their demons today whether you acknowledge it or not.

Is it just me, or has Chick's artwork actually gotten worse somehow? How old is the guy, anyway?

Wait...so Emperor Palpatine is Satan? I'm a little confused....

Yes, of course. Demons are always causing me to pick my nose and exceed the speed limit, too. Both at once, usually.

Lousy demons!

Easy way to pass off any personal responsibility for your own bad behavior, or that of others, isn't it? Nah, he wouldn't have picked up an AK-47 and off'ed all those people if Da Debil didn't make him do it!

Sheesh, how simple! (minded).

Stop making fun of Jack Chick, ya bastids!!! He's real, real smart! Smarterer than any of you by a million!!!

My son was possessed by the same demons when he was four. Also, by an additional booger eating demon. Luckily, we managed to exorcize them all - except for that teenage demon who compells him to think his father is an idiot.

I see. Thanks.
It's a good thing that comic strips don't serve the same function as any of those Catholic trappings.

Fortunately, that one is a time-release demon, and will cease to be active once he hits his early 20's.

I had the misfortune when I was a kid of having parents who were fans of Chick's work. One day I noticed all of my DC and Marvel comics were gone. Replaced with Jack Chick's Crusaders series, and his assorted one-off hooey like Spellbound and Alberto.

Yes, Kathy, demons. How can we be sure that your back problems are not the result of demonic possession? If only you really accepted Jesus, then He would heal you without doctors, medicine, or physical therapy.
