Just like the Great Depression was POTUS Hoover's. However, the Recession of 1937–1938, is known as the Roosevelt Recession. Something POTUS Obama should be aware of just in case we have to be honest down the road.

More importantly, Barack Obama was a member of Wright's church before he met Michelle. I'm pretty sure the main this "responsible for the Rev. Wright fiasco" is actually racial paranoia from white conservatives.
Now I've heard everything. Hitch is a conservative. At least you correctly identified his race.

And blaming the Republican's for the economy, even if true, isn't going to accomplish much with those filibusters, it may even be counter productive.

The 1937-38 recession happened because FDR, in an uncalled for show of bi-partisanship, took pity on a bunch of Republican cry-babies and cut taxes on the big boys. BIG mistake, which he corrected in the next budget and got us backl on track to ramp up industrial production to prepare for WWII. Germany would otherwise have won the war. And don't say that the war helped end the depression. They never do, if you are yourt own best customer for weapons. Look what the most recent military adventures have done to our ecconomy.
The recovery after the war was largely the doing of Truman and Eisenhower and a rational tax policy. The war profiteers did not pocket the national treasure that time like they have this time.
The main reason we haven't recovered yet is that the fat slobs who benefitted from the Shrub's stupidity haven't started either hiring or paying back what they ripped off.

On an upward trend, eh? We've lost jobs each of the last3 months (some 'Recovery Summer'). Losing jobs is now an 'upward trend'? The last quarter for which we have numbers (2Q, 2010) had a real GDP growth rate annualized at 1.6%.

Not even close. It was due to FDR"S increase taxes and cuts in Federal spending. Where do you get this revisionist drivel? Mother Jones magazine?

POTUS Obama's economic "accomplishments" are only "accomplishments" as they are measured against what transpired during the Bush Administration. That's some accolade!
As it relates to 1936/37, under FDR's New Deal, it was too soon for the economy to solo. Hence the recession.

The $1.6 trillion deficit was a Bush budget, Obama promptly cut $500 billion from the deficit despite the recession.
I'd love to see politicians stop bickering about who is right and wrong, and work on coming up with solutions that work. Why is it so hard for politicians to look back at previous policies to determine what worked and what didn't work? Both groups are stubborn and so willing to blame the other instead of working on solutions. I have my issues with Obama as I did with Bush. That said, I voted for Obama. I don't regret it.

70%+ income taxes and massive public works programs worked fine under Eisenhower. Too bad the rest of the GOP didn't learn anything from him.
