But Obama isn't doing it all himself personally, therefore this is like the worst Katrina ever out of all those dozens and dozens of Katrinas that have happened since he was elected!

It's the Cajun Navy.

Where is it that you get the information on how many rounds of golf he's played since the flooding started?

I'm trying to determine if it's impressive research, or pulled out of your ass.

I extrapolated a bit. I might have exaggerated too. But he played his 8th round of golf yesterday, and no doubt is playing again today (with Larry David I believe). All since arriving in Martha's Vineyard 12 days ago. See here.

The president has also made time for golf, hitting the links with NBA stars Chris Paul, Steph Curry, Alonzo Mourning and Ray Allen. So far, Mr. Obama has played eight rounds.

“President Obama went out for his sixth round of golf on a hot Sunday afternoon, where he briefly intersected with ABC News cameras staked out near the Farmneck Golf Club’s third fairway,” ABC News reported this week. “Obama was the only one of his foursome to hit the fairway, and playfully ribbed his partners as they started to look for their balls in the rough.

I think the parallels are a little more striking than any of the others. The damage is almost exactly the same as with Katrina. It's mostly impoverished people in Louisiana who are affected. Tens of thousands of homes flooded. Thousands of people being rescued from rooftops and stranded cars. The difference is that it's not primarily the US Coast Guard and US Navy doing the rescuing. Oh, and also the President has played six rounds of golf since it started.

Do you really think it would be a good idea for him to be out standing in flood waters pulling people in - when he is responsible for a whole country and is not trained in direct rescue work? Life goes on normally in places not directly or heavy indirectly in places where disaster occurs. YMMV but it would be wrong.

Dude's on vacation. People play golf on vacation.

News at 11.

We really need to get past this faux outrage whenever our President goes on vacation. But hey, chin up kiddo. I'm not sure Hillary plays golf.

Of course you want the extreme alternative. Someone who OWNS golf courses. Just another in a long line of conservative contradictions.

Doesn't that get exhausting?

Adding: the US has plenty of trained people and sends them in for that. Oh, except Bush and his Brownie buddy!!!!

Let's remember that Brownie actraully complained & criticized Obama for being too on the ball for Hurrican Sandy.

Heck of a job, Brownie.

I tend to strongly suspect the latter, but I am willing to look at and consider a TRUSTWORTHY site - not a republicker propaganda mill!!!

A day before Katrina hit, a single document warned of a possible levee breach? Well, that's just a great heads up for everybody involved.

Your comment:

This is utterly false. By the way, the failure of the levee was not expected. Overtopping was expected, but not a breach of the levee.

Wanna water down that a bit more?

Nope. It might have been a little over the top, but certainly not a breach of the truth.

X:No one expected a breach of the levy.

Y:Here's a report expecting the breach of the levy, would you like to revise your statement?

X:No, I may have been hyperbolic, but I was right.

[sound of any remaining credibility flushing away]

Well, aside from your inability to understand a little humor, I'll note that SG claimed that the breach of the levees was predictable and therefore the levees should have been fixed ahead of time. A document predicting a possible levee breach the day before Katrina hit hardly supports that claim. In fact, studies and drills run a year or more before did not anticipate a levee breach. Levees shouldn't breach actually. The problem with storm surge is overtopping. The levees had significant design flaws which were only discovered after Katrina.

So at the Hurricane Pam exercise you did with FEMA in July of 2004, to play out a scenario of a major disaster, not all of the officials took what you had to say seriously?

At the Hurricane Pam exercise we had a number of officials who basically scoffed at us when we were talking about the potential of levees going and the very real threat to New Orleans of a major hurricane. I think they just believed it wouldn't happen.

His story changed dramatically between the interview in 2004 and the interview in 2005 (after Katrina). I think he is being a wee bit dishonest in his later interview. Here is the summary of the Hurricane Pam exercise, which mentions overtopping of levees but not breaches.

Here is that guy's summary in his 2004 interview:

We are fortunate that the federal government is starting to recognize that this is a serious problem. In July of this year [2004] we had an exercise called the Hurricane Pam exercise, where all the federal agencies got together with state agencies. We did a simulation of what would happen, and then these agencies got together and tried to decide how they would deal with a flooded New Orleans. So there is some recognition now, especially by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, that this is a catastrophe that's right on the horizon.

No mention of levee breaches. No mention of the fact that either FEMA or the Army Corps of Engineers were downplaying the risks. Who to believe? The 2004 version of Ivor van Heerden, or the 2005 version? I'll take the 2004 version. Less hindsight in that one.

Sounds more like a guy who felt he was at least being listened to in 2004 and by 2005 realized he was being hoodwinked by the Bush cronies.
