Isn't she technically a GMILF?

Since that is a perfectly legitimate category, and she is certainly a GM and a lot of people have indicated a disire to put their body parts in her body parts, I'd have to say yes. She would not be on my list, but.....(I leave the mentally less abled alone that way!)

Now, the woman who portrays her in the Hustler video series, Lisa Ann, her I could be ALL over like white on rice.

Indeed, and I think we can all agree that Oprah isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer. :D

I try to avoid celebrity gossip, but it's unavoidable in our culture. Therefore, I have heard some discussions of Oprah's life. From what I've heard about Oprah, she is one sharp cookie.

Her audience.....maybe not so much.

I don't believe you recognize intelligence when you see it. What do you suggest Oprah uses to effect things, or to keep you happy, affect people to great effect?

I suggest that Oprah doesn't create reality in any greater or smaller quantity than Bush, Palin, you, or me. We all, in fact, effect reality in relatively the same quantity.

Seriously, if you're just going to keep focusing on your grammatical mistake I can play along, but you've still completely failed to actually addressed what I said instead of picking an argument you've already lost.

Yep, he successfully maneuvered his party right into the toilet. That takes true skill and inteligence to get people to hate you that much.

Yeah, but he drove them in to the ditch after 6-7 years of success. I would also add that much of the Republican fall was not necessarily his fault. A string of Republican scandals certainly helped tarnish the Reps.

Then again, here we are only 2 years after Bush and the Republicans are back on the rise. for comparison purposes, two years after Clinton the Dems were still struggling.

He would never have gotten a second term if not for 9/11. He was always a dud, he just benefited from the popularity gain in going to war.

Yes but the republicans have the benefit of being organized. Now they are filing off their brand name and becoming the tea party, because of all the damage to the Republican brand.

You may be right. Still, I would not qualify Bush as stupid. Like a previous poster pointed out, MBA from a top notch school is not without merit. Sure he benefited from familial connections throughout his career but that is irrelevant to intelligence. Sure he seems rather uninterested in intellectual pursuits. Again, somewhat irrelevant to intelligence. He is no genius but he is smart.

It seems the Republicans are poised to win more than the Dems in this next election. This despite the Tea Parties. Republican resurgence is more than the Tea Parties although that has a lot to do with the energy in the party.

How can you or I, who's most powerful tool for disinformation is probably a crappy blog, possibly affect what is seen as reality as much as people who can spin nonsense as fact to tens of millions of people via prime time tv and multiple print sources?

If I say Iraq is making nukes, or you can make wishes come true, who is going to take notice? But if I was POTUS or a vastly influential tv celebrity?

Just look at the sales for The Secret. Oprah can literally make or break (ok, make) Woo on a national level.

Your question requires agreement that perception creates reality, and I find that idea one of the things that keeps woo beliefs and religion so powerful in pretty much any culture-- it's just shy of magical thinking.*
So, my answer is that regardless of their memetic influence, the effects of their influence do precisely jack and squat to provide either an increase or decrease of reality. As such, they are still unable to create reality any more than I do.

* I do, however, agree that perception tends to influence individuals' realities.

It didn't hurt that Kerry ran the worst campaign since Mike Dukakis. "Intelligence" is one of those words that is really hard to pin down. Somewhere in the Kerry campaign someone said, "John. I think if you went out and shot a goose, you could really shore up your ties with union workers concerned about gun rights." Kerry, and the rest of his staff, who are undoubtedly people with very high IQs, all nodded sagely and declared it was a great idea.

It just proves that there are different forms of "smart" (and "stupid") in the world.

I just had to chime in here, once I saw this thread.

I voted that Palin is stupider than Bush; but perhaps it might be better to say that she's got more arrogance than Bush. Bush, for all his (many) faults, seemed to at least sometimes acknowledge his weaknesses, and rely on others to provide guidance when needed.

Palin, by contrast, seems to be so absolutely convinced of her own abilities (and so blind to her numerous faults) that she commits the same mistakes over and over and over again. Being Bush's 'handler' was difficult; but being Palin's handler is hell (a fact well attested to by all those who've been in this position, and then left). As numerous comics have pointed out, she's every comedian's gift from god, because there's no need whatsoever to make up, distort, or exaggerate things she does/says in order to get a laugh. You can simply show her, unedited, and be guaranteed of guffaws (or head shakes of shocked disbelief) every time.

Perhaps tied in with this is the fact that while Bush apparently believed he was 'doing God's work', Palin's belief that she's doing God's work seems far, far stronger, and more extreme. Again, probably attributable more to pride and arrogance, than to stupidity.

And the Shrub never gave any particular support to a bishop who wanted to conduct a prayer service to protect him from witches.
