Is It Real?

I wouldn't call it a skeptical show, because they get to the debunking (which takes about 5% of viewing time anyway) right at the end, after all of this mysterious BS at the start in order to get viewers.
I've got a book about crop circles that does this. I can't remember its title or its author. Basically it traces the history of crop circles and crop circle enthusiasts, covers multiple theories of their origins, and finally in the very last chapter it says that they're all a hoax, introduces the two characters that started the trend, and explained how there's multiple groups all over the world making them. It was actually a really good book and very interesting. So the style of doing the "reveal" at the end can work, if it's done well.

I won't have time to look into the Friedman threads or the memos in question until I get back from vacation (~9/9/09) so don't think I've abandoned the discussion. I won't have much computer time on our trip.

I see Larry King spent the hour on the 'new' UFO revelations coming out of the UK government files. I turned it off. But I will look into the new revelations at some point soon. It's just that this road has been trod many times before and nothing was found at the end of it.

Nothing to support the skeptic's agenda, or the proponents agenda?

Larry King's funny. He sucks up to psychics and UFO people, he sucks up to James Randi. He sucks up to liberals, he sucks up to conservatives. He sucks up to pastors, he sucks up to atheists. He sucks up to Rick Warren, he sucks up to Bill Maher. He sucks up to politicians, he sucks up to politicians of the exact opposing view...and everyone in between. He sucks up to good actors, he sucks up to bad actors.

He has no agenda, just interviewing whoever happens to be popular and letting them get away with everything.

This makes him, oddly, very objective.

Larry King: the ultimate straw-man ;)
