Is homeopathy a sham?

And McDonalds is quite a popular "restaurant" too.

Doesn't mean the food is any good.
Refer to Argumentum ad populumWP to see where you are going wrong with this line of thinking.

This is not logic class--we are talking about medicine.
Respected physicians have recently been brave enough to endorse homopathy.
Over 7,000 books on homeopathy are available on Amazon!
Listen, I don't know why you're all so against it, but it WORKS.
Look up Dr. Kishan Agarwal--he can explain the science much better than I.

The science is actually very simple in terms of chemistry: It's just water. In terms of psychology, it's a little more complicated, what with all the self-delusion and compartmentalization going on.

No, we're talking about homeopathy, which is basically just water.

Can YOU tell distilled water from a homeopathic solution? Neither can anyone else.

The homeopathic solution sells for about 6000 euros a liter.

Having read through this thread, I can come to one conclusion:
All the posters on both sides are rigidly set in their ways.
Hopefully this won't degenerate into a complete trainwreck.
As we've seen before, however,... this isn't really much to hope for.

Real tests always prove that it doesn't work. In my experience homeopathy is used for minor ailments that clear up by themselves. In the past I have replaced people's solutions and pills with distilled water and calcium pills and they swore it was doing them a world of good. I have also swallowed whole bottles of homeopathic sleeping pills and stayed wide awake.

The skeptics are not set in their ways, they follow the evidence which shows that homeopathy has no physical effect. If you have any other evidence, feel free to present it here.

It doesn't work. "Explaining" it doesn't prove it works. I can explain astrology, that doesn't prove it works.

True, but the skeptics also don't expect there ever to be any, right?
In the end, Avogadro's limit hasn't changed in centuries and is well established.
The only real thing left is to routinely test against placebos and similar:
Surely we can manage that without shouting each other senseless?

I never shout here. Believers in the nonsense that is homeopathy ignore all the real test results.

No we don't expect any evidence, but that doesn't mean we would ignore any real evidence if it was presented. We would apply the scientific method to any evidence, not just accept it because someone says something works.

Hasn't that already been done?

Would you expect pure water to cure ailments and diseases? I don't expect to find any green cheese on the Moon either.

Right. And that is the most rational position to take. There never has been any evidence that homeopathy works, other than placebo, and every evidence that it doesn't.
Hit us with the evidence and we will become believers.

Yes, quite a lot, but we nasty skeptics are being taken to task for believing those results.

Taken to task?
Rather than scold you, I am trying as nicely as I can to get you all to listen.
One day I hope you will open your eyes and see what really is right in front of you.
Let's PLEASE all approach homeopathy with an open mind.
Lying to yourself about it doesn't only hurt yourself--it hurts society.

Does having an 'open mind' involve acknowledging existing research and experiments on the subject?

I didn't make myself clear. I meant out there in the wacky world of homeopaths and believers. As I said before, in the past I have conducted my own experiments with homeopathy and discovered that it was no more than a placebo effect. My open mind told me that after I had considered the results. You seem to be confusing the term ''open mind'' with ''believing anything anybody tells you.''

You could add a couple of zeros there fella.

Youtube: 'Randi Benvenista'.

ETA: Do you not see the irony in introducing Avagadro?

Honestly! How many times?
