Is homeopathy a sham?

The homeopath that I visited diagnosed me by putting pills in my hand and pushing down on my arm.

Is this something you learn at the homeopathy university or something? I find a dearth of practical information on diagnosis on the web (source of all things educational). Much more common is patients who tell the homeopath what they have, either by just knowing somehow or after getting a diagnosis from one of those allopathic doctors.

... I am not clear on how homeopaths diagnose diseases. I assume that lab work is right out?

No labwork. And no diagnosing diseases.
They just look at symptoms superficially and try to find a substance that causes similar symptoms. To complicate their 'diagnosis' they incorporate all kinds of associations.

To find that substance they create a 30c (10030) 'dilution' to see (read: imagine) if it 'causes' those symptoms.
Organon 5th and 6th editions, aphorism 128.

I think it was Rolfe who once trolled a forum of homeopaths by presenting them with a fictional case of a critically ill girl, and asking them how they would treat her. The homeopaths proceeded to treat her by symptoms only, and she subsequently passed away. Whoops. Good thing it was only a fictional case, right:)?

Except... these were real practicioners, already out there working on people.
Once that hits you, that thede nuts playing doctor are actually taken seriously by people with grave illnesses... That's when it's all of a sudden not funny anymore.

And they often seem to decide in advance what those symptoms are going to be - I've seen 'provings' where they discuss expected symptoms at the start, and then manage to confirm that those symptoms are caused.

There is PLENTY of evidence.

Observations show that homeopathic medicine works--this is inarguable.
LICENSING for homeopathy is available in many American states.
Let's all admit I've won the argument now, okay?

Wheee, is that you, Nancy? Linking to sites that don't support your position, indeed! Try to READ the sites you reference.

Won the argument? I haven't even noticed you joining it.

Terrible excuses, I think not--this is EVIDENCE.

Reference?

Randi himself is on the record as stating there is value in homeopathic medicine.

Reference?

Oncologists know to use homeopathic methods when treating cancer patients.

Referece?

Libraries are full of books detailing the success of homeopathic medicine over the years.

Libraries are full of fiction.

I think that everyone involved in this
Laughable thread should
Open their eyes and realize that the universe is
Vastly more complex than anyone thinks!
Even if we can't PROVE that homeopathy works
Under the strict rules of science,

We could if it worked. It is as simple as that. Forget strange mysticism, forget the double-talk. Just treat patients and show documented improvement over placebo, that's all it takes.

Just do it.

MRC_Hans, you missed the joke. Read the last couple of posts you responded to again.

Yeah, yeah, I got them. *Yawn*. Straight on ignore they went.

Thing is, I have heard similar lines in earnest from homoeopaths, so I didn't catch on right away. :nope:

I'm starting a homeopathic brewery and I'm currently potentising a barrel of beer in my cellar.

I will be selling said beer in 1 liter sealed plastic bottles.

I intend to get the potency to about 13C, which may take a while but I'm open for preorders.

In order to produce real homoeopathic beer, you would need to find some thing that produces the opposite symptoms of drunkenness, such as water. Potentising it would produce strong drunkenness. I wonder if the effect would be more pronounced if you dilute the water with alcohol?

Internet: Serious Business!

Normally one would've seen "YHBT. YHL. HAND." by now, but I suppose we're getting the homeopathic version. :D

Yes, of course you got the joke BEFORE you put us on ignore.

Lordy, it'd be far more grownup of you if you'd just admit you were played.

I guess he won't see this, will he? Oh, well.

I don't understand the reference. 'Splain, please, Remi?
