Merged Irish SSM referendum.

Or two medals in a love heart...

In ballot news, the first constituency to come back with a No result is Roscommon-South Leitrim.

That turned out to be the only constituency that voted no, although a few of the border counties only passed it by a whisker. Overall it was passed by 62%.

That's amazing! For a country which is often thought of as being very conservative and religious, that's a great result.

As has been said it was the only one. Which reinforces my belief that the best use for Leitrim is as a giant reservoir.

And the other referendum was defeated nearly 4:1.

I was curious to see how Cavan-Monaghan would vote, as my sister lives in Cavan.
It only just squeaked through, apparently Monaghan alone would've been No but modern, liberal, forward-thinking Cavan dragged the constituency over the line.:)

The retreat from traditional Roman Catholicism in Ireland is truly impressive.
Next up Poland? ;)

So, will Ireland now become a sort of Gretna Green for gay couples from Northern Ireland? That is the only nation on the British Isles which has no gay marriage yet.

Anyway, congrats to Ireland and kudos to the Irish people for this wise decision.

Well, depends on the definition of "nation"; it's not allowed on the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, either.
