Iraq war worth the cost?

And, in any case, if it was “worth it,” why shouldn’t we keep doing it, not only in Iraq but all over the world? Perpetual war for stable government, one might call it.

All-or-nothing fallacy.

That doesn't make any sense. Either you used an All-or-Nothing fallacy or you didn't. And you did.

I posed the question with a hint of sarcasm. You may call it an all or nothing fallacy, but that's not how I see it.

Wasn't. Saddam was already at war with the US and UK. He didn't abide by the ceasefire terms.

Which is exactly how the war was sold to the US public. No mention of tons of the most deadly weapons known to man. No sketches of mobile bio-labs. No receipts for yellowcake uranium. No deadly UAV capable of striking the US. No ties to al Qaeda. No, none of that...

Syria, Iran and wealthy Saudi backers were behind it.

Exactly. Why did we invade Iraq again?

Bin Laden is dead and Al-Qaeda have been crushed, having achieved absolutely nothing.

Good.

Yes, too bad none of that actually happened in Iraq. It might have made losing 4,500 US citizens more palatable.

I spend a much higher percentage of my income on food than I do flushing dollar bills down the toilet.

Population of earth: ~ 7 billion
cost of Iraq war: ~ $3 trillion
= $428 per person

Cost of 1 dozen donuts: ~ 5 dollars

instead of Iraq we could have bought every man, woman and child on face of the earth 85 dozen donuts.

But once those donuts have been eaten there's nothing left. With the removal of the Hussein clan, it's more an open ended investment

Well to be fair they have caused the West to completely re-write the security rule book. Without their contribution we wouldn't have had the Patriot act, the nightmare which is commercial air travel, the wariness/paranoia we have w.r.t. Muslims and a generation of radical Muslims

They achieved a heck of a lot, much of it unintentionally.

I guess it´s easy to say it´s a good thing when not living under ti.

I live under it. Besides air-travel, I've not felt any change in my day to day life. But then I live a very simple life.
