Iran to stone adulterer who confessed after torture.

Not all Christians are raving irrational fundies, are they?

Again with the moral equivalences.

We're talking about States that are implementing and executing those horrible things, not individual "fundies" or small communities. Those are entire countries and their entire legal systems.

I agree with you. Murder with aggravating circumstances causes said murderer to deserve the ultimate price which means he or she has to forfeit their lives to society. If the guilt can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt them he or she deserves to be executed.

There are execution methods and there are execution methods. Going under the needle or being shot by a firing squad or being gullotined is humane. Being stoned to death is not especially for the reason in the OP.

Not the way they do it. I've seen a video of 5 guys being in essence chopped to pieces by automatic weapons, and followed by multiple gunshots to the heads.
In the Stone Age countries, executions are done to cow the people with their ferocity and obvious inflicting of pain.

I appreciate this post. Most immigrants from Turkey are cool. You guys like to party and are often a load of fun to be around. I had a lady from Turkey who after graduating college here in georgia was adfraid shed have to leave the country. Me and a group of friends succeeded in helping her stay here. She married another turkish guy living here and here she'll stay as long as she wants to. We love her big time.

The only difference between radical islam and radical fundy Xanity is the law of the land.

Do you have any evidence whatsoever of an individual who emigrates with the sole intention of introducing stoning as a form of capital punishment in a Western democracy?

Surely if you want to live a society where stoning adulterers to death is A-OK you stay in the Middle East?
.
No, the occasional Stone Age killer comes here and does his Stone Age murder, and gets caught and sent to jail.
Usually for some "family honor" thing.
Teeny-bopper daughter not wearing a veil, etc.. Ya know, things people NEED to do for.

My impression is that most Turks i know are not very religious anyway.
Even the Imam from Turkey i know isn't any thing close to a fundamentalist.

I don't, and I doubt there is any.
But some immigrate and leave their cultural baggage behind, while others immigrate and bring their cultural baggage with them. In the latter case, when that baggage includes subjugating and hurting women, the effect is to propogate barbarism, whether that is their sole intention or not.

I'm of course not against them coming here, but I think there is something to be said about them staying in their country so that they can try and change things over there.

I mean by this what would have happened if Western feminists in the first half of the 20th century had just simply decided to move to other countries? None of the progress our societies have made would have come about.

Islam needs to be reformed, or modernized, how can it do that if their most progressive voices flee? There is a limited influence pressure from abroad can make, they need to change things over there. They need people to change things.

What about amputations of hands and other body parts? There are videos showing men getting their hands chopped off with the guy doing the chopping beaming from ear to ear as he ties the hands together and walks away. What if the guy is innocent? You can't give him his hands back. In another video some years back a man had his penis chopped off while a woman watched. What if he was innocent of the crimes he was accused of?

"Iran uses mineral-based tools to render justice on vow-optional person who provided valuable intelligence during enhanced interrogation."

There now, isn't it better when we've sanitized it?

They might be disgusting barbarians, but at least they make no bones about it.

at the end of the day, its the same, e-chair or stoned, you are death, and that is wrong.

Hm. If you're saying a murder out of personal gain is the same as putting to death a convicted serial killer, does that mean that according to you kidnapping someone for ransom is essentially the same as incarcerating a convicted repeat offender serial rapist?

If that's so, you have a very wrong opinion about justice system.

and did i say that?

I thought you were in favour of the death penalty?
If you are given a fair trial and are convicted of murder with aggravating circumstances then I am in favor of the death penalty but not for some poor woman who did adultery or not.

The last execution we had in Georgia was of a man who had kidnapped, raped and strangled a an 11 year old girl. You want me to feel sorry for him.

And while this stoning ritual is undoubtedly barbaric in the extreme, I think you'll find many non-Americans hold exactly the same opinion of the electric chair.

Rolfe.

You'll even find Americans (like me) who find the electric chair barbaric. :)

Stories like this are horrible, what can be done about it? It seems nobody really cares all that much about these things beyond using them as a stick to beat Islam with.

One can donate time or money to Amnesty International.

One can contact one's own government and ask that pressure be put on Iran to stop this execution and similar executions. In the U.S., that would involve contacting Hillary Clinton or contacting the State Department's Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA), headed by Assistant Secretary Jeffrey Feltman.

If you must execute someone for something, avoid using rocks, swords, clubs, wild horses, etc.
I think beheading with a sharp sword is less cruel than electric chair. It only LOOKS barbaric.

In US we have a bit of schizophrenia about methods of execution. There are MANY ways to kill someone instantly and painlessly -- most of them involve rapid obliteration of the brain. However they are also bloody and messy, and thus feel "uncivilized".

Lethal injection was invented to alleviate such feelings. But precisely because nothing dramatic happens, there is no way to tell whether convict is suffering or not. Hence court challenges to lethal injection on the grounds of "cruel and unusual punishment." Which it may well be.

Ironically, I know at least one method of execution which is totally painless and involves no messes. Breathing hypoxic air. Not poisonous gas of any kind, but plain pure nitrogen. You do not feel suffocating, and just breath normally until you pass out. Ten more minutes, and you will never wake up.

Unfotunately, the concept of "gas chamber" of any kind has been "Godwinized", so to speak...

That seems logical, but the reality of the situation is revealed by studying real-life accounts of beheading executions woth sword & axe. While some sword & axe executions were & are probably done well, they are not necessarily quick & clean and often toake multible blows to complete. The potential for suffering should be self evident.

I do not even understand why people feel the need to compare this terrible practic of stoning to other forms of execution. A bunch of citizens throwing small stones at a helpless persons head until they die is not humane, it is death by torture. Period, end of story. Condemn the practice, because it deserves to be condemned and needs to end.

That not withstanding, I will say that I do not approve of the electric chair, and am glad it is going the way of the dodo. In the U.S., we are down to about 5 states that still offer it as an option. It is important to note that the condemned must choose that form of execution. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that no states use the chair as their primary means of execution. Someone please correst me if I am wrong on that.

Regards, Canis

Yeah because executing murderers is the same as stoning an alleged adulterer whose confession was gained through torture.

She is an alleged murderer. That's a difference. As I said which I don't expect people to care about, because most people on this site don't read the entire post, I am against the punishment and all forms of capital punishment.

Evidence that she is an alleged murderer?

And I read your post. You're against the death penalty. Fine. It is still ridiculous to compare this situation to what happens in the USA.
