Intelligent Design

the expansion of the universe is not exactly the same as conventional expansion. Universal expansion exists as all points expanding from each other. Like dots painted on ther surface of a balloon. That is not to say that the universe is expanding like a balloon. (the analogy goes "imagine the 2 dimensional surface of a balloon is our 3 dimensional universe." Pretty hard to imagine by any means.) Remember, the universe has no boundry or edge. There is no conventional surface that is expanding into something else. If quantum mechanics is correct, our universe is built on a 10 (or more) dimentional matrix, only four of which we are capable of detecting. (3 spatial and one temporal). There are 7 othe dimensions to worry about. To us this expansion appears 3 dimensional as every point expanding away from each other but the universe is as much as 10 dimensional. If there is an "outside" to our universe, it would not necessarily follow our concepts of space and time or the laws of physics as we know them. It would not be an outside as we would understand "outside". We think in simple terms where the universe is far more complex.

This expansion combined with gravity produces some interesting intergalactic structures. The large scale structure of the universe appears as galaxies forming on the surface of huge voids Like soap bubbles. See here: http://archive.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Cyberia/Cosmos/Images/northsouth_lg.jpg

I wasn't aware there were other dimensions in the current theories. Do you have a link to someting I could read on that subject ?

Belz, could you point me to some sources of this "foam" stuff you've been talking about?

That's as maybe. We happen to hold similar opinions on the quality of those two movies, but it doesn't do you argument any good to use them as seeming syllogisms.
Sure it does, if it gets the point accross.

And if it does not, as is the present case, then it does not.

These movies are not only not helping, they seem to be getting in the way of your actually understanding.

Well, guess what? I don't really watch that many movies. In fact I only saw The Matrix once on TV, and that was about two years after it was released, and I saw The Truman Show once on TV, and of that I only saw about half of it. So I guess you don't really need to worry whether movies are getting in the way of my understanding or not.

It is painfully obvious that, whatever understanding you have of the movies, is getting in the way of your actual understanding of the topic at hand.

It really wouldn't matter what the movies were. Iacchus has demonstrated time and time again that he cannot separate fantasy and reality. I mean, jeezle pete! What can you do with someone who thinks dreams are a real "dimension"? By all evidence, Iacchus actually believes that The Matrix is a valid model of the universe.

Maybe if we made a movie of a balloon, he could understand.

Got it

Ever see him in the movie, The Devil's Advocate? A great movie!

That's probably one of many movies of his that I've not seen. Seen B&T (both), all Matrix movies, Point Break, My Own Private Idaho, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Feeling Minnesota, Speed, the ignoble 'Johnny Mnemonic'. Have the latter two on laserdisc yet! Acting - bad. Cute - good. ;)
