Incredible russian Martial Arts...

I'm Bulgarian, located in Sofia. If you want to try Aikido, look for Martin Todorov in Turnovo.

Uhm no. YOU brought it up. *sigh' I guess it's time for a *plonk*. Bye.

I just saw that the post I replied to said: "You brought up the tea, you tell me."

So yeah, I misread and it was indeed I who "brought it up". As if using an old saying is "bringing something up". But I still get the feeling that Tai Chi's just poping out Non Sequiturs to be a pest and with no intent to actually post anything relevant, so the *plonk* remain.

Why do martial arts threads end in fighting?

For myself I remember my first Ninjutsu class. The instructor (a fat guy) told me to try and hit him with my best technique. Before I could move the chubby swine ran the length of the hall and waved at me from the farthest corner. "Cant hit me from here, can you?" he said. Lesson 1 learned.

A lot of what you people are describing as chi is simply body mechanics and the result of how our brains work. The human body is designed to work in certain ways and sometimes those ways are counter intuitive so when people see it they think it is an amazing, magical feat. I have done demonstrations where someone grabs my lapel and I try to knock their hand off. They laugh because I can't remove their hand no matter how hard I try.

Then I remove their hand with no effort and they are stunned. So stunned that they don't notice I am making them let go without my having to do anything but move their hand away from my body.

It is just a simple way to take advantage of the way most people's brain works. In fact, they don't even realize that they are doing it. I can tell because I can move their hand with no effort when a few seconds before I couldn't move it at all.

No, I do not believe chi exists, in fact I know it doesn't. What I do know though, is that anyone who has some martial arts training is aware of many of these simple little things and they are often used as parlour tricks at parties and such. (Martial artists like to drink. . . a lot!)

Oh, by the way. The trick to making someone let go of your lapel is to gently touch their hand before you slap it away. The touch causes their brain to change focus and you push their hand away before it can refocus. It really is that simple and unamazing.

I'm afraid you may be correct.

This looks definitely like the latter to me. The guy waves a pudgy hand in the vincinity of apupils face and the guy stumbles meters back falling down. Wave it around their stomach region and they look poleaxed as if someone's beaten them with a sledgehammer in the solar plexus. And so on, and so on.

Looks like they wanna stage this show of incredible martial prowess but failing utterly at it.
You know, my Aikido instructor once did the same thing to me. He asked me to charge at him at full speed. I did. Just as I was about to tackle him he pointed his finger at my face and it looked so close I thought he was going to put my eye out. Instead of making contact with him I fell onto the ground. I wonder how much of this chi stuff (in general, not on this video) is from exploiting the natural human response to recoil from a hand in your face?

Now you are on to us!! :D :D :D There are several reactions that get exploited with this stuff.

Some of the stuff is just good body mechanics though. Sometimes it is as simple as moving a finger to point toward the ground and you get a large increase in strength. When you actually examine what is happening though, you realize that it has nothing to do with the finger. It has to do with the fact that your arm is in a better position mechanically if your finger is pointed down.

Don't even get me started on George Dillman and his pressure point crap!

(Martial artists like to drink. . . a lot!)

They sure do. I was told a story when a Hombu Shihan would be talking of the one master-secret of Morihei Ueshiba. He was in Bulgaria then and aikidokas here decided to make him drunk and happy so that he will reveal the amazing chi-secret. You may have seen Morihei Ueshiba's videos where he easily knocks his students down, even from a distance. So maybe the people would imagine that this Shihan has mastered the secret and will show them something truly amazing.

So, the Master is good and drunk, and says, come now, who will be my partner so I will show him this technique...

Master and partner kneel facing each other, partner is made to grab the Shihan's wrists. Little twist!- and this, my children, this little twist of wrist is the amazing technique.

In fact, it's one damn useful thing, deceptively easy-looking but hard to master, especially with bigger hands and a harder grip. It's a good tip, but definitely body mechanics only.

I think too much alcohol impaired the Master's chi skills. Or he decided the real thing is waaay too secret to give away to Bulgarians (who will then conquer the world with their psychic skills:)

We had a Russian master over at our dojo who would describe this body mechanics/arm movement techniques with the movements made when knocking down a shot of Vodka.

Really, people out of the martial arts world can seem pretty uncoordinated. Showing a little control of body mechanics will then work as a great parlor trick. Ever done the Unbendable Arm and Unliftable body tricks? All it requires is partners that are not too huge or strong:) Definitely the right execution gives you an advantage in strength.

Maybe this is an old onem, but I find it hilarious:

But seriously. This can not be for real, can it? Please tell me it's an elaborate joke...

This stuff is real. Believe me or don't I don't care, but atleast quiz me on its validity.
I at first when I saw this tape just laughed at how stupid the dude looked and retarded his coordination is. I am not certain if he can do this but I know for a fact that it is possible after having experienced it myself. I am a martial artist of 12years, I don't mean to brag, inwhich I certainly am but I'm pretty damn good. This guys moves suck serious ass, and he has no correct movement of his body and often gets tied up in himself, which is something no truly skilled martial artist would do. However, forget his crapness for the moment. I have acually met not one, but 2 guys that can do the exact same thing, you can't resist there moves... I'm serious everyone trys to beat them but you can't resist there moves they are just so skilled. They move effortlessly (with less coordination than myself) but it works, its like you can't put force on them otherwise you'll push yourself off balance, thats why you can't resist, you have to react because subconsciously you are always trying to maintain balance. The two guys im talking about are David Brown and Mal Macray, they have a Dojo in melbourne australia. They are less fantastical than this guy but they can move you without resistance in exactly the same way.
Don't be so quick to judge mr fatty here, he is more than likely actually capable.
Infact would this be suitable for a test of the paranormal if i could do that?

If you have watched his video though you would note he says it isnt magic or chi, but just the psychology of the person, so stop laughing at the dude that could whoop your ass. He likely understands psychology and peoples reactions more than you ever will because you have never listened to what is happening. Keep an open mind and answers will come, don't demand them or you will never be satisfied

If it is all psychological, then it won't work on people who have never seen him before or don't know which direction they will be heading.

Demonstrating chi energy would probably qualify you for the million though I don't speak for JREF officially. What can you do?

No need to be purposely stupid...
People react certain ways to certain things, and it does work on people who have never seen it before.

Lets say you could push someone with your pinky and they can't resist any of the movements or something like that. Could pushem around how you like without them being able to put up any resistance. Like there muscles can't do anything against you, almost like they are letting it happen but are trying to fight it but can't.
I personally am not interested though, but perhaps some people I know might do it if I can persuade them...that is when and if I see them ofcourse.
