Incredible russian Martial Arts...

I'm pretty sure it is no joke.

I'm afraid you may be correct.

I'm pretty sure it is no joke.
When I was in college, I had to choreograph a couple martial art fight scenes. I went around campus looking for people who had a base understanding of martial arts safety and technique. I eventually found the Aikido club. The class had a fairly rigid structure and it seemed there was implied consent that no resistance should be given as techniques were performed. The video mirrors what I saw in that class. There is a fine line between no resistance and falling down when some guy points at you.

This looks definitely like the latter to me. The guy waves a pudgy hand in the vincinity of apupils face and the guy stumbles meters back falling down. Wave it around their stomach region and they look poleaxed as if someone's beaten them with a sledgehammer in the solar plexus. And so on, and so on.

Looks like they wanna stage this show of incredible martial prowess but failing utterly at it.

It is staged but did you see the end of the video? It says "beyond the physical" and the teacher appears to be using chi power.

Indeed. From PsiLoads link above about Systema:

by the legendary Mikhail Ryabko.

The most impressive film in the world of martial arts! Breathtaking demonstrations and detailed instructions on how to develop and apply the highest form of self-defense - the Psychic Energy. Overcome any attack with minimal or no physical contact at all! Based on years of intense combat and secret missions, this is an outstanding presentation of the most subtle and powerful ways to move, strike and control your opponents, biomechanics, breathing, human psychology and foresight. Truly, once in a lifetime opportunity to expand your skills beyond the physical.

Seems to definitely fall under the "Human Stun Gun(tm)" category of *cough* martial arts.

Why don't you contact that martial artist?

There's a Martial Artists in that video? Thankfully PsiLoad found some of the DVDs the pudgy gentleman is peddling and it seems that these clowns are indeed 100% serious.

JREF Challenge:

I will kick the crap out of the guy in the video, or Ill give him 10 bucks (hey he could sit on me or something)

This Russian master seems to be doing some form of Aikido techniques, plus some more exotic stuff. He also seems to work with partners who will willingly take a rolling fall. Believe me, learning to fall to make the thrower look impressive is not such a hard skill.

Sometimes, a partner will really have a motivation to fall- it will hurt if you don't. At other times you just get in the habit of rolling to please the thrower and get it over with. Partners will sometimes be so cooperative that as a thrower you will certainly believe you may have "beyond the physical" skills.

The only time I managed to scare a guy into falling without being touched was during a 30 seconds of multiple attacks", a fun game at the end of Aikido classes. Five people will surround you and perform the attack of choice, and you have to move around so that they will not crowd you. Well, one of the guys was attacking with real enthusiasm, and I decided to do the most direct Aikido technique- extend your arm and push the person's neck or face. Step in to use body weight. The more enthusiasm a person puts into an attack, the nastier it will be if someone were to push him in the face. So here is one "beyond the physical" recipe:

Find an enthusiastic attacker who can take a rolling fall. Look like a scary bitch with hair all messed up, your face red and with the fierce-eyed look of an Irezumi samurai. So, I'm looking like a scary bitch, give an enthusiastic shout and prepare to push the poor guy straight in the face. In a split second he knows he will be run over, so he falls on his own. Me get feeling of being jedi. But just looked very scary.

I guess looking scary and ugly is a part of the game, hence the general pudginess and ugliness of Russian martial artists who claim supernatural powers. Who would want to be touched by that "Master"? I'd rather take a break fall:)

Apologies for this major derail but i've just noticed you're located in Bulgaria!
I'm here too in Turnovo. I'm English, however. Are you Bulgarian?

If a $39.95 purchase can enable me to use my mind to make people somersault on my ass, I'd consider that money well-spent.

True. A most useful skill. Though, I bit more .. materialist would be nice, like making bankers inclined to hand over huge bags of money, would that be in order?

You have not.

Exactly.

But I'm always told here that being skeptical is more than just doubt.

;)

And whatever does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

I doubted these clowns where for real, but you never know, so I asked and got confirmation that it was serious. Happy now?
