In Teabagistan Schools Will Be Segregated

@Skeptic Ginger: The easiest way to respond would be to say that by the time a kid reaches high school, they should already have gotten the "founding fathers were fantastic" perspective well reinforced. In high school, teenagers should be exposed to the other, less palatable aspects of history. They should be exposed sooner of course, but we're talking public schools where not every kid is going to have a strong scholastic background.

Not addressing the negative aspects of US history is a recipe for stunting kids' intellectual growth, leaving them with "George Washington was the first president, the end."

Separating history into "good guys" and "bad guys" might make classes more ideologically acceptable to certain people, but it doesn't do a very good job of delivering an education.

But that's the kind of education that Obama and his buddies, William Ayers and Klonsky, have been pushing. One that attacks capitalism and makes America out to be a bad country. Well, to use that phrase Reverend Wright loved, now we are reaping what we sowed in education all those years.

There are so many levels of comedy to this post that it's impossible to describe them all.

"How dare this bad-guy, Obama, and his bad-guy buddies try to advance a view of America that points out bad-guys."

Forget the irony-meter, that post was the Platonic form of irony.

Well, to use that phrase Reverend Wright loved, now we are reaping what we sowed in education all those years.

I agree, it's terrible that our insufficient education system has created a public dumb enough to buy into the Tea Party.

I'd love to see a source for this one, in particular the assertion that the actual President of the United States is involved in pushing for this.

You just gave him the perfect opening. As you well know, Obama was born in Kaklamania, and there is no actual president at the moment.

You find this comedy?

In the first year of it's existence, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge gave $175,000 to a group (Small Schools Workshop) that Ayers created and then turned over to Mike Klonsky, a former member of the SDS and maoist. Here's a story on one of that effort's small schools, what they teach and how they go about teaching:

http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080225/doster

"The parents kept saying they really wanted our school to teach the values of peace and struggle," says Rito Martinez, the principal of Social Justice High School ... snip ... One of four small schools housed on the campus, Martinez's social justice school was specifically created to foster basic skills and literacy--as well as critical inquiry--through projects and problems centered on race, gender and economic equity. ... snip ... While the history of LVLHS's genesis is unique, its approach is not; the movement to link education, social justice and activism is appealing to a growing number of educators and community organizations around the country. ... snip ... Conservatives, with the New York Sun and City Journal leading the charge, have denounced the movement for indoctrinating public school students with leftist politics at the expense of general education.

You read the description in that link and try to convince us that isn't a description of indoctrination in socialist and communist ideas. In his schools, the teacher preaches “social justice” and that American capitalism is racist, materialist, imperialist and unjust. Try to convince us that is not indoctrination into the anti-American communist ideology that Klonsky and Ayers advocated for decades. Try to convince us that is *comedy*.

And well you laugh, I'll ask the rest of this audience to keep in mind that Klonsky's father was an American communist who was convicted in the 1950s of advocating the forcible overthrow of the United States government. Keep in mind that in the 1960s, Klonsky teamed with Ayers, Dohrn, and other radicals to form the SDS and it was from the SDS that Ayers and Dohrn founded the Weatherman. Keep in mind that Klonsky formed a Maoist organization, first called the “October League,” which became the “Communist Party (Marxist Leninist).” Keep in mind that he was among the first Americans invited to visit Communist China. Klonksy was and is a hard core communist, and he was given millions by CAC and Obama to *educate* our youth. And you think that's comedy.

People to keep in mind that Obama's campaign gave Klonsky a blog on the official Obama campaign website to spread his ideas of “social justice”. It was only shut down when a conservative pointed it out to the media. Then all traces of Klonsky were scrubbed from the campaign. Do you understand that Obama was trying to hide this association from voters? Tranewreck, you got all up in arms because Palin took down a map with some crosshairs on it, yet show the least concern when Obama hid something far more insidious.

Here's another example of the extremist, racist, anti-capitalist ideology promoted Obama and his pals via the public *education* system:

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YTQ0YjhlOGVhYjQ0OWRhZjI2MmM4NTQ4NGM5Mjg0MzU=

In the winter of 1996, the Coalition for Improved Education in [Chicago’s] South Shore (CIESS) announced that it had received a $200,000 grant from the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.

... snip ...

The South Shore African Village Collaborative (SSAVC) was very much a part of the Afrocentric “rites of passage movement,” a fringe education crusade of the 1990s.

... snip ...

To learn what the rites of passage movement was all about, we can turn to a sympathetic 1992 study published in the Journal of Negro Education by Nsenga Warfield-Coppock. In that article, Warfield-Coppock bemoans the fact that public education in the United States is shaped by “capitalism, competitiveness, racism, sexism and oppression.”

... snip ...

We know that SSAVC was part of this movement, not only because their Annenberg proposals were filled with Afrocentric themes and references to “rites of passage,” but also because SSAVC’s faculty set up its African-centered curriculum in consultation with some of the most prominent leaders of the “rites of passage movement.” For example, a CIESS teacher conference sponsored a presentation on African-centered curricula by Jacob Carruthers, a particularly controversial Afrocentrist.

... snip ...

According to Chicago Annenberg Challenge records, Carruthers’s training session on African-centered curricula for SSAVC teachers was a huge hit: “As a consciousness raising session, it received rave reviews, and has prepared the way for the curriculum readiness survey....” These teacher-training workshops were directly funded by the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Another sure sign of the ideological cast of SSAVC’s curriculum can be found in Annenberg documents noting that SSAVC students are taught the wisdom of Ptahhotep. Carruthers’s concerns about “menticide” and “genocide” at the hand of America’s white supremacist system seem to be echoed in an SSAVC document that says: “Our children need to understand the historical context of our struggles for liberation from those forces that seek to destroy us.”

... snip ...

When Jeremiah Wright turned toward African-centered thinking ... snip ... many prominent thinkers from Carruthers’s Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations were invited to speak at Trinity United Church of Christ, Carruthers himself included.

... snip ...

Discretely waiting until after the election, Bill Ayers and his wife, and fellow former terrorist, Bernardine Dohrn plan to release a book in 2009 entitled Race Course Against White Supremacy. The book will be published by Third World Press, a press set up by Carruthers and other members of the ASCAC.

... snip ...

And as noted, Wright had invited Carruthers, Hilliard, and like-minded thinkers to address his Trinity congregants. Wright likes to tick off his connections to these prominent Afrocentrists in sermons, and Obama would surely have heard of them. Reading over SSAVC’s Annenberg proposals, Obama could hardly be ignorant of what they were about. And if by some chance Obama overlooked Hilliard’s or Carruthers’s names, SSAVC’s proposals are filled with references to “rites of passage” and “Ptahhotep,” dead giveaways for the anti-American and separatist ideological concoction favored by SSAVC.

... snip ...

We know that Obama did read the proposals. Annenberg documents show him commenting on proposal quality. And especially after 1995, when concerns over self-dealing and conflicts of interest forced the Ayers-headed “Collaborative” to distance itself from monetary issues, all funding decisions fell to Obama and the board. Significantly, there was dissent within the board. One business leader and experienced grant-smith characterized the quality of most Annenberg proposals as “awful.” ... snip ... Yet Obama and his very small and divided board kept the money flowing to ideologically extremist groups like the South Shore African Village Collaborative, instead of organizations focused on traditional educational achievement.

Yeah, you go ahead and laugh, Tranewreck.

So still nothing to source on Obama promoting this?

ETA: I ask this because really, if you have one, you might want to take it to the national press instead of the JREF forum. It would be a pretty big scandal.

You just gave him the perfect opening. As you well know, Obama was born in Kaklamania, and there is no actual president at the moment.

Why dishonestly try to derail the thread by implying I'm a birther. I'm not. Why don't you instead just stick to the facts of who Obama and Ayers gave the CAC money to and what their small schools taught. Why don't you just stick to the fact that the democrat controlled school system has made it possible to teach decidely anti-American garbage (ala Zinn) for years and years. And that much of that garbage eminated from people like Ayers and institutions like AERA, where he was Vice President of Curriculum. Instead of trying to dishonestly derail the thread. But I think we all know why. :D

Yeah, you just go ahead and pretend that Obama and Ayers never co-chaired an education project where anti-Americanism was taught. I provided sources to prove that occurred and you ignore them. Fine. Hope you are comfy in your little box. :boxedin:

I'll take that as a yes.

It sure is raining dung on Teabagistan these days, education-wise.

Tea Parties in Tennessee are pushing for some changes to schools curriculum:

From the Commercial Appeal

That's right: teabaggery means never criticizing your past leaders when it comes to kickin' Injuns around and holdin' slaves.

Fiscal responsibility and whitewashed history -- that's what the Tea Parties are all about.

By the way, can anyone explain to me why it's so all-fired important to these whacktards to emphasize the "republic not a democracy" shtick?

Lincoln was the first Republican president. Isn't he the one thats responsible for ending slavery.

Yep! "Party of Lincoln" is a phrase often used by the GOP, and by all rights, they should. However, the Southern Strategy really shifted the constituencies and core platform ideas of the democrats and republicans in the middle of the 20th century. That's why, against all modern political common sense, you'll see predominantly Democratic state legislatures in hyper-conservative states (Alabama has its first Republican state legislature in a LONG time after the last election, for example). That's also where you got Dixiecrats and committee chair wars. It was a really interesting era, politically, and one worth looking into!

It's unfortunate that a small but vocal segment of society views real history as somehow conspiratorial against the US. The real world is what it is. A false picture of reality because you prefer that image, is not helpful.

I just found that statement funny by comparing teabaggers to slave owners. Especially considering the Republicans freed the slaves. Though I will agree it was the Republicans that finished off the Indians.
However, if you want to get technical, the Democrats were the slave owners. Socialism seems to be the core of the Democratic party. Socialism isn't racist, it enslaves everyone.

It's fortunate that a small but vocal segment of society actually post sources to back up what they say is historical fact, rather than just regurgitating the sort of drivel that Zinn propagandizes as "the real world". Else we'd all be like you, SG. :D

I know you put a lot of effort into your extensive posts around here, but if you think I'm going to wade through all that Crazy, you've got another thing coming. I'm sorry you don't appreciate my pithy banter -- feel free to ignore. ;)

Yeah, you go ahead and laugh, Tranewreck.

If by "this" you mean your incoherent posts, then 1) yes and 2) I will.

Your response was totally immaterial to the astonishing lack of self-awareness that made the statement I replied to so very, very funny.

As for the substance, there' literally no way to talk to you about these issues. You're so totally lost in your bizarre ideology that any effort at multicultural education will be interpreted as some sinister communist plot.

In the 19th century America really did have slavery. We really did decimate the native poulation. We really did treat women quite poorly. Nothing is gained from pretending like this didn't happen.
