Imus be an idiot . . .

I saw it on CNN only a few moments ago. What a shame...:(

I agree. It sets a scary precedent. Who will be next? How do insulting words scar and injure? Those we enjoy and trust on the radio...Will they overcompensate and edit what they say and stiffle decent?

That's what most people here can't comprehend. They pride themselves as being "intelligent skeptics" or "critical thinkers" but the facts are most of their critical thinking abilities are limited to religion or pseudoscience. That's it. And even very limited in those aspects.

Whenever I see some talking head or see a quote from CBS regarding their firing of Imus the same nonsensical arguments keep coming up. Here's what CBS said..

There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society.

Oh yes, Canning Imus for a bad joke will help African American women make their way in our society. Riiight. The fact that most teenagers don't watch Imus seems to be amiss. As does the fact that these same "young people of color" are so addicted to their Rap Stars yelling out "bitches and ho's" that they could not make it a day without listening to "Snoop Dog" or "50 cent" demean women and objectify them.

This whole ordeal seems to be everyone exploiting Imus and taking as much advantage of him as they can. Imus makes a bad joke that is slightly offensive and then everyone jumps on him.
Sharpton and Jackson exploit him to gain media attention.
The Media exploits him because they're too stupid to actually air real news and like to fall over themselves to see who can be more politically correct.
The Rutgers team exploit the situation by going on Opera and telling their sob story and spending an hour at a press conference talking about how Imus's comments have "scarred them for life"

It all makes me sick.

The guy's 66 years old, has more money than probably all of us put together, has a pretty, young wife. My bet is he says, "@#$% it, I'm gonna enjoy life on the ranch."

ETA: That's what I'd do, anyway.

As I noted elsewhere, I think firing Imus while citing this remark is hypocritical since both Westwood One and MSNBC have been letting racist comments go by on his show for years (most of them voiced by his sidekick, Bernard). It would be far better, and far more entertaining, to just regularly shame him on the issue. I guess they just couldn't be honest and say "Well, we're letting Imus go because the sponsors told us to do it." Which, by the way, would be within the rights of both the sponsors and the broadcasters.

Still, Dustin, trying to say that the remark wasn't racist, or trying to justify it by pointing to others who make similar or worse remarks, is ridiculous.

Agreed and well said. It's also hard to take seriously claims that these women are strong and proud when they get so upset about what some washed-up DJ who no one listens to anymore says. "Our great hurt" puh-leeze.

How much longer do you think that pretty, young wife is going to stick around?

And Imus tried to exploit the Rutgers team on his show in order to make a cheap shot. No great loss here.

Dustin, in your mind, what is the proper reaction to being offended by something?

Al Sharpton is, and others will soon be.

Explain.

What government controls are being advocated?

Show evidence.

And what "others"? I haven't seen a single person on this forum, in this discussion, talk about government controls. So once more, your argument was weak in this context, as no one here is advocating any form of government control.

Where was it debunked? Be specific. How was it debunked? Explain.

Give me incentive to explain what has already been explained, please.

Will you pay me? If not, then I don't have incentive.

You keep claiming that what I have said is wrong and when I explain in vast detail how it's right, you say it's been debunked. When I asked HOW it's been debunked, you ignore me. It looks like I'm wasting my time.

Your details stink. They have been shown how they stink. Here's a tip:

Print out all of the posts in this thread.

Put them on a board.

Take a dart.

Blindfold yourself.

Throw the dart.

Re-throw it if it lands on your own post (or edit out your own posts before posting it).

You will come across an adequate refutation.

Thank you, have a nice day.

Imus got about 3.5 MILLION radio listeners per week on average during the 1st quarter of 07. Washed up DJ who no one listens to anymore?
