Why can't they have the KSM trial in federal court, so that we can learn more about the events? What could be secret about that guy (he is probably almost brain dead by now after all the water boardind).

It's in my sig but I see that the question has already been answered but I'll expand a bit on it. It was the first submarine test launch of a Trident D5 missile by the Tennessee. A motor actuator arm failed causing the nozzle to become jammed in one position making for a rather spectacular launch until the range officer blew it up by remote control.

I knew a guy who was on board that boat when that happened. His description of how the crew reacted to it (it has to be told in person though, there was a lot of gesticulations and creative swearing involved) was freaking hilarious.

KSM, is he a citizen? A lawful combatant? Any status?

KSM should be treated exactly like 19 terrorists treated the people they murdered. No better, no worse. Old testament like, Koran like. Water-boarding is too humane.

Why would someone commit a crime, deny any responsibility less than a week later, then 3 months later release a video saying that he was behind the crime? This just doesn't make sense to me.

To be real here, I never liked that tired old bad joke because it ignores the fact that unfortunately no justice system is perfect and there have been, and are at times, innocent people that are wrongfully convicted and sent to prison, even executed.

If the statement was really issued then it would have been done by someone who claimed to have been representing OBL. OBL was on the run before the 9/11 attacks because he knew and wanted the US to retaliate in Afghanistan. OBL would not have given any interviews revealing where he might be.

I think the reason there will never be a KSM trial is because he was in the US prior to 9/11 meeting the hijackers in teams in Las Vegas monitoring the operation. KSM was a party animal and likely chose Las Vegas as his base of operation.
KSM in the US prior to 9/11 can never be revealed to the public, so there will never be a trial.

Not if he didn't want to. But if OBL wanted to get a message out to the world then, sure, he'd give an interview. Any particular reason he wouldn't choose Al Jazeera?

I agree with Jack by the hedge (and others) that he did play a part in the attacks and then lied about it in hopes of remaining alive.

OT - I was on one of the support ships (USS Kittiwake, ASR-13) when the first successful Trident II was launched. We had a good old time being rammed by the MV Greenpeace and watching the Navy SEALs in action. Those missiles are loud as hell when they break the surface of the water. :eye-poppi
 
OK, I did some research on this and it it turns out that this was actually a letter that Bin Laden wrote and gave to an aide who gave it to his brother who gave it to his cousin who gave it to his old college roommate who gave it to his plumber who gave it to his landscaper who gave it to the Taliban who gave it to the Afghan army who gave it to al-Jazeera.

Suprising it didn't come out earlier.
