Hydrogen perpetual motion claims rear their head again

Yes. It never seems to occur to them that turning that alternator under load is hard work, and the more current you demand, the harder that work becomes. (And the quicker you kill your alternator)

And therefore, the more gasoline you'll burn.

And the general principle for all PPM/free energy machines is that they're simply missing something--failing to add up all the forces or ignoring some other input of energy. Sure, they'll say (as Cuddles pointed out) "mumblemumblemumblemumblequantum" but they're just missing something.

The Museum of Unworkable Devices treats many of these devices as physics exercises (can you figure out what proponents of these devices are missing?): http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/museum/unwork.htm

My car has a wind generator on the roof.
The faster I go, the more power it makes.
I use the excess power to run an electrolysis unit, which produces enough H2 to actually float the car, which minimizes the frictional loses from the wheels.

You know, if you put a fan in front of the wind generator, then you can make power while sitting still!

Patents require you to disclose everything required to make a device work. Either he has patents, or he has secrets. Can't have both.

You can. It mostly involves bury the details in enough industry specific jargon that the only people who can understand it either work for you or your suppliers.

Do you have a specific example of that ? Because I seriously doubt such patent would hold if challenged in court to disclose the meaning of the jargon, and the query is not properly answered.

A patent that doesn't explain to a person of ordinary skill in the art how to make and use the invention is invalid.

See my sig. I was making one of those.

He claims he's got a free energy machine, but his business model is to sell rights to the machine, not to sell energy at a huge profit.

My bar is the Home Depot test: If I can buy one at Home Depot, then the physics work.

I have a similar setup. Have you noticed that, when you go in reverse, it sucks energy from the Universe?

German WW1 patents relating to various chemicals is the classic example. Problem is all the people skilled in the art were in germany.

OK let me rephrase that. Do you have any example which are from today ? Because frankly, 1910 is not exactely what I would call a good example, sorry.

No, I didn't!

Thanks for the tip.
I have a stiff neck, and hate backing up.
I suppose I could rig fancier mirrors.
Did you rig extra gears for reverse?

As far as his own research goes, he has created a hydrogen cell that is efficient enough to power a cooking grill. So he’s created another company, Green Grills, which he plans will create water-powered grills to help raise the capital he needs to carry on his ultimate dream.

Doing a web-search for "Hunter Browning" "Green Grills" only returns this article, so either his company has zero web presence, or his name does not appear on any site with the company name.

But creating a hydrogen fuel cell efficient enough to run a grill isn't a big deal. They already exist. What confuses me is, why would you bother with a fuel cell? If you just want to produce heat (which is what a grill does), you could simply run the grill off hydrogen directly, no fuel cell needed.

What I'm more interested in is how he intends to separate hydrogen from water using less power than can be extracted from turning hydrogen back into water again.

With enough trial and error, with the right processes, the right electrical current, the mysteries of the quantum universe could efficiently unleash hydrogen from oxygen’s grasp.

Couldn’t it?

As far as I'm aware, the answer is no. From the article, the answer supposedly has something to do with the "resonant frequency of molecules", but no details are mentioned.

I find it quite bizarre that we seek far-out solutions to stupid problems.

We will need 100 new fission reactors to power the hair dryers for the burgeoning masses of teenage girls in India and China, by 2016.

Or not.

Maybe those girls could just dry their hair with a towel, like in the olden days?
Or would that be, like, totally luddites-ville?

Why? Are you aware of any new caselaw that would prevent that tactic?

There are others of course. The standard one among pharmaceutical companies is to patent a group of compounds together so you can't work out which one is actually their drug candidate. Another is describing a widget completely but failing to explain how to make it (that the weird alloy you used needs to be welded under helium strangely fails to make it into the patent). Heh pretty much any patent by a company that knows what it is doing is going to balance maximising protection against minimising the amount of information given out.
