In a number of posts in a number of threads, Dr. Imago has asserted that climate scientists (apparently) en toto are biased/corrupt, and that climate science isn't real science (even meriting scare quotes around "climate science"). According to Dr. I, the bias/corruption is evidenced by scientists focusing solely on greenhouse gases, and ignoring other factors.
After ignoring several challenges to provide evidence, and ignoring the fact that there are countless studies (pro and con) about solar influence, aerosols, etc., Dr. I finally offered up this. I don't think that my response did a very good job at crystalizing the absurdity of the arguments put forward, so I'm going to have one more go at it...
Here are the three pieces of evidence that Dr. I provided:
(1) NOAA analysis
(2) ABC news story
It is patently absurd to hang sloppy/biased news reports around the neck of climate scientists. If we're going to use press reporting (cherry-picked or otherwise) to judge the state of the science, then it's a simple matter to discredit all fields of science.
(3) CommonDreams.org
This is an agenda-driven, anti a/gw site. A quote isn't neccesary, nor is there much of a reason to even click the link. That's because as absurd as it may be to hang press reports around the necks of climate scientists, it's even more absurd to hang an agenda-driven source such as commondreams -- it doesn't even matter what they say (in terms of evaluating the science that is).
This is an undistilled joke (of the bleakly amusing variety).

Clearly, this not only fails to support Dr I's argument; it stands in stark opposition.NOAA said:A spike in the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere between 2001 and 2003 appears to be a temporary phenomenon and apparently does not indicate a quickening build-up of the gas in the atmosphere, according to an analysis by NOAA climate experts.
(2) ABC news story
First off, this doesn't seem like a very strong example of alarmism to me. But let's assume for a moment that it's over-the-top alarmistic.ABC said:Climate experts said that the figures may be an anomaly but that they raised the alarm that climate change may be happening faster than previously believed and that governments around the world should take notice.
